Hmmm....for the second time in 12 hours I have posted to this thread and then my post has disappeared. Very strange and never had this before. Oh well, here goes again.
| Quote: | | sorry to hear about your mother, hope shes doings better. |
Thank you for your concern ttuuxxx. At 88 years old things take their time to get better but she is on the mend.
Thanks also for your response to my list.
| Quote: | | 6 - If I put back the email on the desktop, It won't launch the Simple Mail plugin, So it would be a dead link on the desktop, I don't see why it would be needed? |
I use email extensively so prefer to have a desktop icon to do a quick launch. I guess I can try to write a script to launch SimpleMail which will also help to teach me some Bash scripting.
| Quote: | | 9 - BMP vs XMMS well they are 2 of the same, The only real differnce is the menu, They use the same skins, |
Whoooops! Didn't realise this. Will look at skinning it myself.
| Quote: | | 10 I'll fix the mut link |
OlddogNewtricks has kindly given a fix for this below. Thanks for this. Works a treat.
| Quote: | | 12 - 15 fstab any ideas for fixes? |
No idea except for the "workarounds" I mentioned in my list.
I guess I'll have to look into what creates the fstab list and see if I can change that.
If/when I get a fix I'll of course report it here.
Thanks for all this as ever.

And again...before I have to leave for the weekend....
1. I tend to agree with OlddogNewtricks in that I like a nice simple taskbar. No need for a (small) analogue clock there. I much prefer a digital one anyway with date display. And prefer to launch FF from the left side near Menu as separate (larger) icon. Just my opinion.
2. Yes, perhaps BMP needs a better looking skin as default.
3. I used to have Sherman's Aquarium (or lagoon as I seem to remember it being called) some years ago as a screensaver. Liked it then as it was fun but got tired of it eventually. Not sure what this very small applet is supposed to do however?
Cheers
Dave

I downloaded the Sherman pet. It complained of missing libraries, so I went off to find them.
Now the library parts missing are part of the GAI library, so I took some time to read about GAI
From what I can gather the library on it's own lends itself to making doc apps without the Sherman app 'just by adding a few lines of code', their words not mine. So any app output can be 'docked' looks possible. Certainly reading the docs it seems to be so.
Is this what you are doing or modding the Sherman doc apps?
(Sorry late posting, just looked at posts above) |
Naa I'm not modding sherman, thats bordline non gpl stuff, he uses images that aren't his. but I'm using the gai apps like cpu meter was one, the interesting thing about gai and C is the code size is very small and part of the app is interactive, it would be double or triple the size if gtk2 was used for interactive stuff for what that app can do. here's a screenshot of the right click ui. The bin file 13kb.
and below it is a nice digital clock the I shrank to fit on the taskbar it has a alarm clock feature also, I could use the 2 barks for the alarm clock and make it really small for install size, but setting the alarm could be tricky for how small the gui is.

ttuuxxx: Like the new digital clock.. especially if it contrasts the other items by the old clock.. your all blue items blend together.. need some separation. Can the digital clock color be user changed? Neon green is kind of ??? Bright? Does look like fun to play with. OF course I could ask for ... move mouse over and get the Puppy Version displayed .
Speaking of fun.. can the games.. bubblet and gems be ported to version 4? Terrible time wasters, but fun. Since you are inside the aquarium..can you tell how it was created.. different small items or simply different png or jpg frames? Always been curious.

Well looks I did a forum search and looks like frozen bubble is frozen for 4 series, Butttttttt If you remind me, next time I'm on 4 series I'll work something out.
Also remind me to compile http://members.allegro.cc/miran/amgc2.html allegro it contains a gem game.
but until then here's a flash gem game, just extract it anywhere and click on it, you can adjust the screen size by resizing your browser window.

Dougal created amongst other media stuff 18 dotpets of XMMS skins(compatible with bmp) & also included jpegs so you can view each one before you download. Find them here http://dotpups.de/dotpups/Multimedia/xmms-1.2.10-by-Dougal/
These however install to /usr/local/share/xmms/Skins & not to /usr/share/bmp/skins where we want them, so you will have to manually move the zip or tar.gz file(no need to extract).
Heres my favourite.

i am way over my head here so I hope my small posts aren't too distracting but thanks I am having fun being a part of the conversation.
I agree with all the posts that vote for a clean task bar with a firefox icon next to the launch menu. as a newbie having cpu usage info in the taskbar wouldn't mean anything to me.
i do like the new digital clock and the blue colors.
also in your last reply to me you mentioned that you prefer parcellite as a clipboard manager and that it is smaller in size than glipper. since you think its better why have you not put that one in instead of glipper? just wondering.
i really like the rutilt wlan manager. is there anyway to get to launch on startup and have it manage my wireless connection without having to go open it everytime?
thanks
and am i the only one that cares that i can't move the lock icon off of the right side of the screen? well, it'll move but after a restart of the wm it goes back to the right. i guess it doesn't bother anyone else. oh well.

what kind of install are you using ? It sounds like your default settings aren't being saved ?
Could you take a desktop screenshot of how where you like the lock icon to be located, I'll move it there for the next release, really I never had a use for it at any time and the location doesn't bug me.

please don't feel obligated to permanently move it for me, it is just somehting i have noticed that doesn't seem right. it seems like a bug that i can't move that 1 icon. i have a frugal install and it must be saving b/c I can move every icon on my screen and when I reboot they will all be where i moved them to except the lock icon right justifies (and the drive icons, of course). here is a picture of how i set my screen up every time after i reboot. b/c the lock icon moves on top of my trash. i know i could just switch the trash and lock icons and who cares but it seems like this should be an easy fix all the other icons don't do this (what do I know though).
any comment about why not parcellite?

The reason why I haven't bothered changing to parcellite is because, well most puppy distro's don't have the extra clipboard on by default, where as this one luckily it does, I only found out about parcellite during the 4.2 build and I quickly compiled it and made it autostart with icewm .
But I just haven't got around to compile/install it yet
I'll try to remember it for the next release.
still thinking about your wireless issues.
