Upup Jaunty packages |
|
Hi guys I've been compiling a bit and wanted to post a few packages, I didn't make this thread in The Software section because I didn't want to confuse anyone with these packages that probably won't work on all previous puppy releases, We really do need a separate Woof section, with Releases,Software,Bugs,Suggestions,. I'm not a admin so this is the best I can do. Ps I didn't know if it should be called Upup or Jpup so I put both, I'll keep adding below ttuuxxx

Ps if you often wonder how Ubuntu makes its packages, here's the guide
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Complete
Libpng Below is patched with Apng So that FireFox3 and Opera10 can display animated PNG pictures. The default in Alpha6 wasn't compiled with that feature. So this is a good update, plus it has major security updates.

Warren is busy with his wifes birthday today
- I have heard some excuses in my time . . .
Tomorrow, all going well, Warren will release 4.2.1 Final
After that I feel sure he will create a thread or folder etc
and this thread can be moved there . . .
So thanks Ttuuxxx for getting it started whilst Warren is womanising and eating birthday cake and having some well deserved r&r
with ref Naming conventions:
You are compiling under Upup (or Upupto to give it the full name)
Jaunty Puppy or Jaunty Pup relates to the version of the kernel and depositories from Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope that are specific to the latest Ubuntu
In the future a new kernel or version of Ubuntu
such as Karmic Koala may lead to a Karma Puppy or Koala Pup
which would still also be a Upup
http://www.tectonic.co.za/?p=4171
Hope that makes sense

Hi lobster thats why at the end of the file name I put a "uj" for Ubuntu Jaunty libpng-1.2.35-i486-uj.pet
That way we know its Ubuntu Jaunty compiled so we don't get it mixed up
I talked to Barry about doing that in his blog and he liked the idea and he also said He'll add it to the new2dir script so it will be automatic in the future. even better

Thanks for clarifying
Glad you are getting behind Kennel
Keep us informed of what you are compiling - as you do
Also do start looking at Genie (if you are not already). Hopefully you will like and learn from MU's code and Barry's Genie pages.
It is a credit to jaunty Pup that despite being alpha (one more alpha 7 and then to Beta according to Barry) that I have been using since its release - despite limitations. Normally I can not use an Alpha release for more than a couple of hours
Be kind to the fish

jpup?
In order to avoid confusion, isn't it better to stick with Barry's definitions, unless he announces otherwise?
Barry's blog wrote: | Note these convenient shorthand notations for Puppy built with Woof:
ppup -- Puppy Puppy
dpup -- Debian Puppy
upup -- Ubuntu Puppy
spup -- Slackware Puppy
apup -- Arch Puppy |

Originally yes, But Upup is just to general, its not version specif, Jpup stands for the version of ubuntu its based and as ubuntu adds new models we'll have to change, First Upup was based on intrepid and now its based on jaunty plus Ubuntu has a newer version now called karmic which would be a future woof model probably. Here's a list of the current Ubuntu models, Plus they just retired gutsy which is a shame since it was the most compatible version for series 4.0.
* dapper (6.06LTS)
* hardy (8.04LTS)
* intrepid (8.10)
* jaunty (9.04)
* karmic

upup is just as general as dpup, apup spup etc....
u = ubuntu, pup = puppy and then is added Intrepid, Jaunty etc...
Now if Barry changes his mind on this I hope he puts it on his blog.
For the moment being, Jpup is too confusing for me.
The tittle of this thread should have been in my opinion upup Jaunty packages.

Compiler & packaging gui for upup
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41758
I have modified it to work with upupto (by Barry's documentation only - needs testing)
I just got around to downloading the iso and devx last night so have not been able to test it. I do plan to add Barry's pet specs gui to it so that all user input is at once, rather than 2 separate guis. I have designed this to be a package maintenance tool for the future. Here are some of the features:
Unzips/tars & compiles source straight from source tarball
Will accept file containing options for ./configure (with distro specific options predefined)
Allows you to specify a dirtree (with required and any extra files) to add to the package.
Once you have figured out how to best compile a package you can use the options.cfg file and your dirtree to easily upgrade to a new package.

Well I tried the last FileZilla extreme package I made for series 4 and it worked on upupJ even the sftp so that means I was able to connect to my ibiblio account, which is very good My brain is in overdrive mode now, which pretty much means I'll be doing somethings different to my traditional puppy methods. but first I have a few loose ends look at.
If you wanted a link to the Filezilla with the full gnutls its outdated by 1 release so I'll wait a bit to updated it, anyways its works great.

ps I wouldn't put this on the repo because it wasn't compiled on Upup and its outdated.
