I happened on this Zoneminder software, which seems to be available for several other linux distros:
http://www.zoneminder.com/downloads.html

Just wondering if anybody has tried this out with Puppy- (which'd be another rejuvenator for all those pre-XP obsolete laptops).

It's described as needing V4L, & "supports capture, analysis, recording, and monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras attached to a Linux system. ZoneMinder also support web and semi-automatic control of Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras using a variety of protocols. It is suitable for use as a DIY home video security system and for commercial or professional video security and surveillance."

somebody (hushpuppy I think) created a puplet (based on Puppy v 2.x) that uses it; I can't remember its name though. Search the forum and you'll come across it. I don't think zoneminder was made available as a dotpet though.

Yes - I've been using Watchdog at the recycling centre where I'm a volunteer.
It does work OK although I've only been using 1 camera. Two cameras seemed to give it a problem but that may have been our video hardware.
I do have a copy - but not here. From memory it is quite large 400 - 500 Mb, not very puppyish
There is also a live cd of zoneminder based on --- I can't remember what!
Not sure how I could make it available, maybe somebody else can offer a suggestion.
