trio my friend

Barry is working on the T2 build from woof, on which standard Puppy is based. IMO, this should be the way to go, with an upgraded kernel to keep all the fancy new HW happy and a retro of course.

Hallos,
Wouldn't it be funny to have options on what apps the user wanted in their .sfs? After the user would have chosen their apps it should build the sfs and install it (talking about frugal) or copy it to ram to use?

As it is right now there are no options , you get a basic set of apps and thats it.

I do realize you will need a DVD to place alot of .pets on but atleast users would get to choose what they wanted. Maybe its just to much work i don't know....

Tomorrow 29 April 2009 Barry will be releasing Woof Alpha 6
Ttuuxxx has agreed to do a monthly update of 4.2.1 (our most stable release of Puppy, out in a few days - May 1 aprox)

Tronkel is very keen on the Debian Woof build
Others are experimenting with Slackware and Arch
So the base element for Kennel is manifesting . . .

The base build would seem to involve
the same Puppy menu structure
but programs compiled/ directly taken from the various woofable
distros (currently Ubuntu, Debian, Slackware, Arch and T2)
Should we expect that Sfs compiled with the devxx for Kennel, will work across the range?
Will .pets be compatible in all version if compiled for the new kernel used in Woof?

What I am trying to find out is the shared elements? :)

Sounds a lot like pretty much any version of Windows.

Unlike Redmond, the software can be appended or new software added by using Pupget. Additional software for a fairly comprehensive range of uses is being posted here all the time.

Even with Ubuntu, which has arguably the best end-user experience out of the box of a major distro, there are hoops to jump through to find what works and what doesn't.

With Ubuntu I find that many things are either unconfigured or need to be downloaded seperately, and this is after waiting, with the latest Ubuntu, what seems to take longer than ever to install the system. And that's off a 700mb distro.

Will do :)
Temporary Council is being created to support 5.xx
http://puppylinux.org/wiki/puppy-commun ... py-council

So far we know that Upuptu based on Ubuntu code with complete Puppy woofability is heading towards the next Alpha6 and possibly even a beta.

The one common theme of 5.xx is the building with Woof
which is already being experimented with.
