Sub_title: Quite big...

This is a very clever program that can do things like solve equations, manipulate matrices, and integrate - much faster than I can do it myself Smile

To install:
1. Install unrpm - e.g. from http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=285443&search_id=1509456662#285443
2. Download maxima... and maxima-exec... from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4933&package_id=302889&release_id=676682
and extract them at the top of the filesystem.
3. Link /usr/lib/libreadline.so.5 as /usr/lib/libreadline.so.4 - do it in rox or run this in a terminal
Code:
ln /usr/lib/libreadline.so.5 /usr/lib/libreadline.so.4

It should now work. The first thing to know to get started is that you press ; and enter to get stuff to happen... so if you type 64^2+1 [enter] - nothing happens and you need to type ; [enter]
Another thing I noticed is that ^ is right associative, as c programmers would expect i.e. 3^2^4=3^(2^4), not (3^2)^4

xmaxima is a tcl/tk gui frontend - just extract the maxima-xmaxima... package from the same place, and install tcl/tk (look in the Puppy 2.x repository in petget).

Now - if I could figure out why the wxmaxima I compiled doesn't work...

BTW I looked at making a stripped down package for Puppy, but I'm not sure how much stuff isn't needed. Stripping and upxing /usr/lib/maxima/5.18.0/binary-clisp/lisp.run and deleting the emacs related stuff only saved a megabyte, so I didn't bother.

There are a lot of similar programs around as well - there is a .pet of YACAS at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1970804370&t=36868, which is much smaller.

Aha - I was unlucky enough to try wxmaxima in the brief period when it didn't work with the latest maxima.
wxmaxima works now - .pet at http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41655

The link I gave to the maxima package is broken. There is now a .pet at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=380359#380359 (along with other maths software), so you don't need unrpm anymore either.
