Running pl 4.1.2 right now and thought I would try Opera 10 from

Downloaded to 'My documents' folder, clicked and after a short while was told the program installed, there was a message but before I could take a snapshot I was called away.

When returning 30 min later message gone so I just rebooted the system. Looked in internet and sure enough there was Opera.... clicking, no action.

Try a few times but all seems dead as a doornail

I have an Opera folder with various files including one saying start Op trying this gives another dead doornail response.

I am a bit lost and no expert on Linux but can find my way around.

Suggestions to what interesting problem I may have created for myself?

Have been looking around a bit more in the directories in an effort to start from konsol.

From what I can see, there is an Opera file about 10MB size, and I ought to be able to start this from here.

From looking in the startopera script this ought to have got it going?

This is hard going, after some digging it seems to me to indicat that there ought to be something in this directory?

/root/opera/usr/lib/opera/10.00/

the directory is empy, earlier on there may have been a
libQtGui.so.4.5.0
Should this bedirectory be empty?

Decided to clear out initial install of Opera 10, downloaded again and installed. Rebooted the system. Nothing happens.

Any hints

Place all your QT libs in /usr/lib/
or system link the QT libs to /usr/lib/
The default location that Barry has used is /opt/qt4/
but many times when compiling it doesn't find them by default most programs look in /usr/lib/
that worked for me when I tried it about a week ago.

I have been streching my brain to figure if it was not a symlink problem or could be solved by a symlink but I have not found out how to interpret symlinks yet in PL.

I understand what you are saying in words, and now I also understand your comment earlier in the thread, which I did stop and tried to figure (beginner though with this linux stuff) but had to let go.

To me it looks like I have libQt* in more than one place,

, I would like to clean that up. I guess however I am misunderstanding something so can I ask following.

Should this be cleaned up so I have only one copy of libQt*
That one copy ought to be placed here: /usr/lib/ (as you also suggested)

I keep noticing this link, well I am assuming it is a link, anything with .so in I interpret as a symbol link. If this link is right I am guessing that Op10 might work?

This installed and gave an error message. then I discovered the .package area where one can see what was installed from a .pet I guess.

When I look at the pair of lines, it looks like I have a symlink and the original file

There are 7 other files which are symlinks but have no original file, in ROX they also show up with exclamtion mark in a triangle. or something indicating something is missing.

Are there seven files missing in this download qt4-4.4.2.pet

A search does not reveal any of the seven in the system as far as I can figure.

Great job, I've installed this on upup, Pup4.2.0, and many derivatives. It has proved to be fast and reliable on all that I've tested it on. Only problem, I have is that it refuses to remember passwords that I set, ie password to the Puppy forum. Probably some simple setting that I've overlooked.

When the alpha7 gets released, I intend that the Puppy Package Manager will have a "puppy-5" radiobutton in the choice of repositories. These PET packages will reside at ibiblio.org in the pet_packages-5 directory.

if you get a missing qtcore or gui
just open 2 windows
#1 /usr/lib
and
#2 opt/qt4/lib/libQtCore.so.4
drag the opt/qt4/lib/libQtCore.so.4 to usr/lib and select 'link relative'
and do it again for any other missing qt parts. I usual do them all

better for compiling

You don't need that old package. Uninstall it immediately and reinstall the Opera .PET.
The Opera10 package includes a much newer set of libs (Qt4-4.5.0)

After installing Opera, check your /root/opera/usr/lib/opera/10.00/ directory and see if you have these files:

libQtCore.so.4.5.0
libQtGui.so.4.5.0

Then check /usr/lib and/or /root/opera/usr/lib/opera/10.00/ for these symlinks:

libQtCore.so.4
libQtGui.so.4

Start Opera by executing the

startopera

script.

Thanks for the link to qt4-4.4.2, I have downloaded and installed, I cleaned out the destination directory opt/qt4/lib/ before installing. Then belts and braces to make sure I have what is needed:

Well I am happy in that now all symlinks have an original file to refer to. A bit crude way of looking at it no doubt but works for me.

I have now placed the missing libQtCore.so.4 symlink in /usr/lib

I may however have been a bit too quick and cleaned out too well in /opt/qt4/lib/ time will tell.

I don't know why but in my opinion the only reason your old 'stashbox' download fails is the missing files.

I can however say that your info has sorted out the the error message I was getting. The addition of the one symlink mentioned above has sorted out the running of two instances of Opera 9.64 I have installed.

Because I think I have 3 or 4 instances installed I am now in the process of trying to figure out where they came from and setting up a recording system that will work for me.

During this process I am finding some odd file paths that needs investigation.

Synths Opera 10 just does not have libQtCore.so.4.5.0 all I can find on my system related to anything 4.5 is (pfind: libqt )

# cd /root/opera/usr/lib/opera/10.00/
# ls -l

As I do not call this a set I asked where should I download Opera-10 from, so I do get libQtxxx.4.5. included?

Looks like an incomplete download or some kind of error during the .PET installation.

The Opera 10 package includes all those libs (see screenshots)

Download the package again, rename the extension to .tgz and open it with PupZip (ignore the errors) to check its contents.

The Qt 4.5 libs should be there.

Uninstall the bad package via the package manager, rename that .tgz file back to .pet and install it.

as you can see I have renamed to tgz and PupZip has volunteered help so I can see inside. I have looked inside 3 files now (may be the same one) but the result is the same.

I am using Xarchive ver 02. ... but should not be a problem.

There is no libQtCore.so.4.5.0 !!!!!!

I can see the libQtGui.so.4.5.0 as a 'real file'
I can see the two Symlinks

Ok, where should I download the Opera10 file from that has the missing file?
(previously I have shown via pfind that I do not have the file installed on my system)

Try to run Puppy 4.1.2 live (with the "puppy pfix=ram" option) and see if it installs correctly.

Thanks for your suggestion, it will however not be necessary as I have just had success.

As a last thing I went back to the original post and downloaded again.

Looking inside by renaming the downloaded file *.tgz and using PupZip I found the missing file was now available.

I deleted 3 Opera10 files I have been working on and renamed the latest download to *.pet again and installed successfully. I am using this Opera 10 install right now.

Qt library: 4.5.0
Java: Java Runtime Environment installed

I hava another version
Opera10Alpha using qt3

Also two versions of Opera 9.64

I will nose around in this version and also try and do some cleaning up as I am sure I have remnants spread out in the system.

Been frustrating I am however prepared to stick it out provided I just get a few hints now and then. I have learnt quite a bit this time, not what I set out to do but also good fun.
