Have Fatdog on new Acer Aspire 5535 - handles wireless-n fine! Thanks!

QUESTIONS:

1. 1360x768 does not render properly, stretches things horizontally. Any fix?

2. Does Fatdog 112 make optimal use of the dual-core in the Acer Aspire 5535? If not is there a patch?

3. Fatdog 112 does not see the built-in webcam. Any fix for that, please?

4. Internal mic does not appear to work using mhWavEdit. Is a patch needed?

Thanks again for a terrific distro!

Can someone using Fatdog 112 visit this Web site and tell me if the bottom half renders OK?

I am seeing overlapping text & missing images.

This is a uniquely valuable resource in Florida during hurricane season.

I am also getting an error message from this site - I have seen it using a 4.2 install but was able to view it fine from 421 with Flash 10. I am guessing that there is something missing that I need to add to my Fatdog 112 install?

Just experienced the frustrating flaw in Seamonkey that was repaired in the one released with 421 -- if one bumps the "Ins" key Seamonkey closes and you lose anything that was open.

The layout of keys on my new Acer laptop and our old Panasonic Toughbooks (CF-28's) both lend themselves to this error - especially when one moves from laptop to laptop.

Can this be fixed, please? Frustrating is a kind term.

I have managed to damage the Seamonkey app in Fatdog 112. I have lost the toolbar at the top (with File, Edit, etc) and the bottom of the browser window is 1"+ ot blank space that is non-responsive to a right or left mouse click.

Also, if I click on a URL in the Web browser or E-mail there is no response.

Is it a simple matter to reinstall Seamonkey 1.1.15?

Will that reinstallation wipe out mail folders, address book, and/or bookmarks?

I have also installed Seamonkey 2.0 w/Flash 10. It handles this tough site http://media.myfoxtampabay.com/myfoxhurricane/

I am also observing the old problem in Puppy of apparent memory hoarding of apps - if the red display and slowed apps is a valid indicator.

Quick Note: In my Seamonkey 2.0 install when I click on a URL it does respond correctly, so it is only the original default Seamonkey 1.1.15 install that has been damaged.

Gee, this conversation I am having with myself is getting boring ... arf! arf! any other canines our there?

Meanwhile, one more item to the list ...

OpernOffice 3.1 is complaining of needing JRE.

Is there a preferred source that plays nicely with Fatdog 112 and OO 3.1?

I do\wnloaded the OO 3.1 ZIP and UnZipped it

I then clicked on the SFS to Mount it.

Then I tried to figure out what to do next and when I could not I found a swriter icon in a subfolder and clicked it.

Then when that didn't work aI tried to unmount the OO 3.1 SFS but it refuses to unmount.

Help?

Wow that's a lot.
Does Fatdog 112 make optimal use of the dual-core in the Acer Aspire 5535?
It uses an SMP kernel, so yes.

The text at the bottom of the page does not render correctly in Fixfox 3.5.1 with flash 10.
Is it a simple matter to reinstall Seamonkey 1.1.15?
The easiest way to fix problems in puppy is to create a new pup_save file.
I have also installed Seamonkey 2.0 w/Flash 10. It handles this tough site http://media.myfoxtampabay.com/myfoxhurricane/
Seamonkey2 uses the newer gecko engine that Firefox3 uses, I quit using Firefox 3 in Fatdog1 because it crashes on some Flash web pages. This is due to some old base libraries. Fatdog1xx is just Puppy 4.1.2 with extras.
OpernOffice 3.1 is complaining of needing JRE.

You probably don't need it. It's not included because it's huge.

That's probably a bad idea. Cups is not easy to install and configure.

Thanks kirk! I was beginning to think you may have abandoned Fatdog 112 as posts seem to have ceased back in April.

If I were to reinstall Fatdog 112 would it delete/overwrite the address book, archived E-mails and folders, bookmarks, and saved files?

The Personal Swap FIle thing in Puppy has been an endless source of hassle for me - forever filling up when new apps or large folders are transferred to the primary partition - so I try to store as much as possible out side of it and therefore outside of the pup_save file.

I have this laptop set up with SDA1 left with the ACER apps on it, SDA2 the boot partition, SDA3 for add-on apps and file storage, and SDA4 I tried to make Linux Swap but GParted would not allow that so it's just there as a 3G ext3 partition at the moment.

OK, then it is still the case that their code is sloppy.

I am not certain how to do this without losing all of my settings, especially in e-mail.

If I start Fatdog without using an existing pup_save then I lose everything when I use it and when I save.

I don't know of any other way, is there one?

It stalls at the splash screen - it will not load.

I need it to rightly handle .rtf and ,doc files when I am back and forth with my Editor. I have tried Abiword and Textmaker and both alter the default settings and/or mishandle certain characters.

The default version of CUPS does not recognize printers that are on other computers in the house - I had to update the one in 4.21 to get CUPS to behave - it has been a chronic problem.

I am guessing that the differing versions of CUPS on four different computers may add to the problem but need to be able to find one that is reliable.

re. the problem with Abiword -- I dug back through my prior threads and found this:
Use this pet, it adds the Liberation fonts which use the same metrics as M$ ttfs..it fixed the problem with the rtf file mentioned earlier in this thread.

http://www.gposil.com/pets/Abiword-2.6.3-fixed.pet
Is this patch included in the Abiword 2.6.3 included with Fatdog 112?

I do not recall that it solved the whole compatability problem but think it did allow me to at least view certain docs that I otherwise could not.

I also tried Textmaker before, and just tried it on my other PC, but it mishandles the "-" and some of the formatting.

Only the OO "swriter" word processor, using the Slyfaen font, consistently plays nicely with a document sent back and forth for editing with a MS Word user. If I could only get it to load under Fatdog 112!

I downloaded fatdog 111 & 112 today and installed as a HD full install. After installing, I noticed that the Puppy Package Dependency checker was no where to be found in the menus. I did notice that it was in the menu while running it live on the CD.

Can someone tell me how to correct this and get the dependency checker back? Also, I want to install XFCE 4.61. When I run XFCE, the panel from the other window manager keeps appearing. How do I stop this from happening? Is there a window manager switcher application that I can install, such as the way it gives the option in the menu list to switch between JWM and the other window manager?
