gtkpod 0.99.14 |
|
Here is the latest version 0.99.14 of gtkpod, a Linux management application for the iPod.
Thanks to Raffy, it's available here
http://minipc.org/ipup/download/gtkpod-0.99.14.pet
The gtkpod homepage is
http://www.gtkpod.org/about.html
It's a good idea to have your iTunes library safely available on a separate computer, because some people have reported music database corruption after using gtkpod.
This dotpet is quite large at almost 2MB, because I enabled the mpeg4ip libraries (v1.6.1) for AAC playback support, but I don't own an iPod so I can't test whether AAC playback works.
Tagging should work OK with MP3 files, but Apple does some unconventional things to AAC files, so be wary when modifying AAC/m4a tags.
The safest way to tag AAC is with plinej's pmetatagger utility (now standard in Puppy) which uses the "AtomicParsley" tagging utility.

The iPhone needs to be software-unlocked, or "jailbroken" to work with gtkpod.
This can be done with the jailbreak utilities, PwnageTool and QuickPwn, available for Mac and Windows.
Download these utilities via torrents listed on the official site -
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
Beware of any other download sites!
Also be mindful that if you do not follow instructions exactly, or use the wrong version, your iPhone may be "bricked".

Anyone get this to work with Ipon Nano video 8 gig? |
|
I have been trying to get this to work, but so far have not been able to get it to connect with my nano 8gig. Anyone else have any success with this? I get the firewire id error. Having tried the sysinfo edit, it still does not fix the problem. When I try to create the file system, the files are created in /mnt/ipod, but the files are created on the computer, not on the device plugged into the usb port.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
cheers, Paul
