statifier - the worst parts of static and shared libraries combined in 1

#1 Post by technosaurus »

This is something that I am looking into testing on the new puppy browser and some other vala programs.
The other is liboptimizer, but it has seen no development since '01

It basically turns a binary from shared to static (supposed to work for libraries too)

I tested on the puppy browser with no luck - still needs seamonkey
It does work on other programs though (abiword 2.7.4 for instance worked fine)

I upx'd the 20MB abiword binary and it is <8Mb and completely portable (assuming statifier works as it says) I tested it without any of the abiword files and it seems to work fine - even converted a pdf, opened a doc and saved an abw file

if anyone would like to test the abiword binary only it is here:
http://pupweb.org/desktop/abiword.bz2
(this is the latest development version compiled with most builtin plugins and no spell check)
