Ok Guys here we go again, this has the following

Updates
-abiword-2.6.3-updated (basically the older Abiword with Updated plugins, templates and open docx files)

-homebank-4.0.2-i386-full full version allows you to import extra files formats.

-jwm-456-i386 The latest release of JWM with rounded corners

-Blinky - I compiled Blinky with a gnome images and change the colour of the screen, there wasn't enough contrast before.

-jwmtraypatch_update - Update patch to keep blinky and others on the taskbar.

-mountcifs-1.5 - was overlooked on 4.2 so I installed it. :)

-nbtscan-1.5.1a-james-patched - was overlooked on 4.2 so I installed it. :)

-remax-4.2 - The original version had a error and now its fixed

-rox-docx - this allows rox to open a docx file with abiword when clicked on :)

-xsane-0.996-NoGimp - Only this version of xsane will work out of the box, The one included in 4.2 you needed gimp and tiff5.0

-And one hidden program in menu/multimedia, refresh the menus and you'll see it 8)

plus if you like the start button in 4.2 Icewm that I made, just change the theme to 'Deep thought" and it will show up on the button :)
I also tested this version with a full install and it worked.

Life should be good now :)

you'll have to type it twice

Please Note Mt Paint screenshot isn't working, I think its one of updates that conflicts with it, Before 4.2 Mt Paint screenshot was just a terminal command like
mtpaint -s
But then another user made a nice gtk time delay for mt paint that worked very well and we were going to use that in 4.2.
Then durring the beta release we moved over to tcl/tk version and when I updated remaster express with the patch, mt paint screenshot stops working, so you have 3 choices.

-open a terminal and type
mtpaint -s

-or install the mtpaint pet below which is the gtk version that works :) with the menu like always,

-Or install libatk below and that will fix the broken atk library and the tcl/tk version will work

If I ever update this version again, I'll include on of the pets below.
sorry guys :?

Thanks ttuuxxx,

Code: Select all

remax-4.2 - The original version had a error and now its fixed
just a quick question. Is this means I can even make a slimmer pupplet from your puppy?

well I haven't tried it but yes it should work, I would install that atk lib from above first:) it might use it. Also petbegone might work also.

Tell me how it goes ok :?:

Hi eric I would like to keep the first version for something to fall back on because it was a lot of effort getting it to that point and I can always go back to it for a fresh start. But the last version sure delete away :)
puppies-4.2-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey-v1.iso <-- delete that one

well the libatk is the best bet because it get that library up and running again and mtpaint screenshot will work with just that one lib installed.
you could install the gtk version but your screen shot would be the gtk version and not the tcl/tk one, But no matter what I would install the libatk.

Works for me

@ttuuxxx

I downloaded and installed this version then also installed the libatk fix caused the mtpaint screenshot and remaster express to work. It also allowed FBReader to work as well (it balked before the libatk fix was applied complaining about just that).

Thanks for the update version of Deep Thought. It is much appreciated.

Your welcome, glad its working right minus 1 lib, :) Bugs me a bit but I think I'll give it some time before another update since this version should be the most stable one right now.

This one installs (frugal and full) just fine.

A small problem (I mentioned this much earlier)

Clicking the clipboard still doesn't pop up the window, and
it's necessary to restart x to get it back to normal.

I have one of the jwm patches (jwm-456-i386 Jwm+blinky)?
where did I find it? I like the blinky better.

edit:
OOPS wrong patch.

Trios' patch on page 6 of 4.2 "Bugs and fixes" cures the
clipboard problem and gives me the blinky I like.

Alls right with the world

thanks

The Blinky I made up, I compiled it with new images in code and re-coloured the screens.

Hi all,
I have been following the progress of this version " V4.2 " including it's
refinements. Now for a few questions : I have a full h/d install .

1) Where do I find a ref. to the update version that I think I have loaded i.e. - v1 / v2 ?

2) Can't get REALPLAYER 11 to run, I am using the (dot) PET as per offered on
the forum. - Want for BBC News !

3) Can't get Conky or Pwidgets to desplay down the rhs ( except for the Clock)
with Pwidgets, why don't they come up i.e. Weather etc. ?

MtPaint capture now working after a new PET provided - Thanks for that !

What help do you have - Please !

Ok to answer your questions

Question 1
where do you get a reference file, well there is none, lol But I'll include one with the next release, never needed one before.
But an easy way to tell is look at the differences, ok the hidden feature in 4.2-v2 is that I included 'XFBURN' in the multimedia section, so if you have it in multimedia your using -v2.
4.2 blinky has a single screen that splits in half
4.2-1 blinky looks like windowns 95 with 2 green screens
4.2-2 blinky has 2 blue screens and looks like gnomes blinky

wow you can actually tell all 3 releases apart just looking at blinky, lol

Question 2
I'll have a look at it :) That package was made sometime ago, I think actually that real player is a static library that you can download from the site, set the permissions on the bin file and the execute it and it installs.

Question 3
I made this version to get rid of Pwidgets, and now you want support to put it back in ?? Maybe just use the official 4.2 and add these patches http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/postin ... e&p=292491

no problem my pleasure :) if you haven't tried Xfburn give it a go, it would take less resources than Pburn and should run better/stabler on older computers you recycle :)

It's strange:
I used to run a VIA Epia-M9000 Mainboard with Muppy 008-3 (based on Puppy 3). The internet connection worked with a rtl8187 wireless device using ndiswrapper. Encryptoin: WPA/TKIP
Then I tried Puppies 4.2 Deeper Thought v1. The Network wizard got me on the internet. Yesterday I downloaded v2. The wpa_supplicant changes between scanning and associating and fails connecting.
Starting the browser and entering the router I get the following message:
"The connection was refused when attempting to contact 192.168.2.1
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection…"
At the same time my XP-notebook is online using the same access point via wireless.
Starting deeper thought v1 again – does not work any more (very strange)
Starting Muppy again – internet works.
[Muppy – usb-install / Deeper thought v1 and v2 Live-CD]
What's am I doing wrong?

Alsa sound

Hi Thuuxxx

I`m running your v2 version on a full hard drive install and think it`s really great, I like the rc3 icons.
I have found however just like many other recent pups that when I configure Alsa sound it finds my via82.xxx chips and loads up. However as it displays what it is doing, a list of missing sound modules comes up as it swiches to the next input screen. Gxine still works but it does NOT remember the setting and I have to configure it again every time I switch on.
Also I have noticed that when I play some mp3s from on line I have to wait for buffer refills 4 seconds soundplay and 4 seconds off - it really is a pain. I am on dialup but I`m sure I could hear continuos sounds before using some other player in the far past -maybe at a lesser quality. I like to listen to net radio broadcasts or their saved talk shows for later playback. One of them is www.kevinsmithshow.com a talkshow on paranormal ufo`s etc. I get the buffer problem when clicking on Latest show, top of left menu.
Is ther another player that can handle this? I noticed something about Javascript.

Thanks for all your time and effort.

Firefox:

I'm not having any music or video problems with 4.2; but one
new thing I highly recommend for these type problems,
is GeexBox. Works very well on low end gear; worth trying
with dialup files? It's fun to play with too.
