How to install .tgz files in 4.2?

#1 Post by SSmokinGirl »

Hi i am new to puppy I have ver 4.2 deep thought.
I would like to download .tgz or tar files and then compile them in the terminal. window what do I need to do this.
I know
./configure
make
make install

when I type in ./configure at the terminal prompt it does not work.
I do understand I need a .sfs file. I d/led the one that I had for ver 420.
and it does not detect it when trying to get it to work in boot config?
Is it the wrong file and where can I get this file. Do I need to change the name?

Thanks

The file to download is this one:

devx_420.sfs
devx_420.sfs.md5.txt

When you download it, are you using a downloader that can resume breaks in transmission? Does the md5sum check OK?

If you're using puppy via CD/DVD/USB/Frugal, then you save the devx file to /mnt/home, then reboot. If you're using a full install, then see the Full hard drive section here.

When you have a working compile environment, if you just enter gcc, then you should receive the response no input files

I didn't think Full Installs made a /mnt/home link.

If it really is a full install, then do it by what I consider: The destructive way! Because no one I know of will tell you better. (no I'm not joking)
