alsa will not conig in 4.2

ALSA sound will not configure in 4.2. It worked fine in 4.1. There does not seem to be any difference in the code. During configuration I get a black screen with error notations but it goes away too fast to be read. This just before the final step. I have an E-Machines desktop and a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. Help would be greatly appreciated
