Is your version able to work in ext4 and proceed with them to partition commands?
Sorry I don't know as I only updated the original work with regards to browser and mp4 capability otherwise they are the same as Synth's work and I'm not sure if they had this capability, I hope someone can enlighten us to this. I have only started playing with this to see how I could do basic updates for browsing, Multimedia, and glibc 2.10 update.From what I understand previous attempts at updating failed so I count myself lucky to have achieved these but Woofy is a marvelous tool. Sorry Oui useless answer but I don't honestly know. Also I wanted to stay with and be true to Synth's work. I have only run these live.

I haven't downloaded the new one, but it probably won't recognise ext4 as the original 4.20 / 4.21 series didn't.

darry1966 wrote:I am uploading an updated ISO of Turbopup42v2 it has glibc2.10 and has firefox 17esr from Akita which more up to date than the old Seamonkey it had. It has QT and Xine. I forgot to install updated ffmpeg so the .pet is in the same folder. I also added Flburn as i uses very little resources and is very reliable. Everything else is the same as the program choices are still good for it's target machines.

Please remember to install ffmpeg update .pet for mp4 playback.

I remove Meebo otherwise complete.

Thank you synth for the original.

The Browser was just horribly out of date.https://sourceforge.net/projects/old412 ... 20Updated/
Maybe you should start a new thread with "Updated ....." with reference to this thread, so that people know it is a fresh version ?

There is actually more than one that qualifies under that designation, so there's a possibility that one of those is the more current than the other perhaps?

Thanks. Still, there's at least some difference between the two (with "update" in the filename), beyond the difference in titles.

One is "extremeev" and the other is "alpha2." Is there some way to contextualize the two versions?

Thanks in advance, Kelikaku B'H.

From memory (it is a long time since those isos were published).

Xtreme is the later version of Turbopup and Alpha 2 is an earlier version.

From memory, Turbopup Extreme was the "no compromise" version of Turbopup and would boot and run even in 16 MB of RAM. TurboPup "standard" needed at least 32 MB of RAM to function.
Gigabyte M68MT-52P motherboard, AMD Athlon II X4 630, 5.8 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 250 GB Hitachi hard drive running Ubuntu 16.04.6, MX-19.2, Peppermint 10, PCLinuxOS 20.02, LXLE 18.04.3, Pardus 19.2, exGENT 200119, Bionic Pup 8.0 and Xenial CE 7.5 XL.

You're welcome Darry. TurboPup Extreme really is stripped down though; no Javascript in the browser (seamonkey), let alone Flash (disabled by No Script), or, as far as I can recall, any spell checker in the word processor (Abiword).

It's an impressive achievement for what it will run on but at the same time, IMO it's what you run on a machine where you really can't run anything else.

If anyone is interested in no compromise Puppies there's also one called PULP which its author (zenfunk) claimed would also run in 16 MB of RAM;

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=40226

Apparently TurboPup Extreme won the "battle of the least RAM" between the two of them because it took just 10 MB of RAM to boot and run, whereas PULP needed 15 MB.

OK well I tried it on my laptop, I really like the "turbo" button in the tray on the screen bottom - it bypasses the 'frequency scaling tool' which I find to be annoying and difficult to configure. One of my laptops is really notorious about overheating suddenly on a regular basis, and if I'm too slow to get to the frequency scaling tool, it can sometimes freeze the entire OS and I have to reboot.

With the little 'turbo' button, I can cut down the processor frequency on the fly in seconds and avoid the red icon signal that the processor's too hot. I think it might be an issue with the thermal paste on the processor inside the laptop, because I have a few others that are similar (HP G60s) and they don't heat up like this one does. For what it's worth, this unit made me realize how hard to use the 'frequency scaling tool' is.

Thanks for your help with this. Are you planning any updates to Turbopup? I know it has been quite some time.

I apologize for the late reply. No as the update included glibc update 2.10 and this is the latest that Turbopup can handle.,

I have moved on from Pup 4 from which this is based, Anyway enjoy using these, Have fun.

Blast from the past.

I was cleaning out some old CD's and found one just labelled "Puppy Linux" that is Turbopup Xtreme.

IIRC this is the first version of Puppy that I actually installed to a hard drive (full install, I didn't know any better).

I might try to install it on my old 386/512meg of ram laptop/printer server later just to see how it does.

@Gnimmelf
You can try Precise Light.
It's quite recent and very light, you can install Palemoon/Seamonkey/Firefox etc and you'll have a good puplet for browsing the web on older hardware.
I use it in a Pentium 4 1,8Ghz and 768MB ram notebook.
