I really like Turbopup, runs great on my laptops, but one of my desktops is one of those finicky beasts, it just doesn't like to load any version of Puppy, it never boots with xorg, have to run wizard and choose xvesa or I get squiggly lines and flashing colors on my monitor. Have to boot in xvesa and then download nvidia drivers, so one of my requests would be to add a "hardware drivers" section like quickpet has in Lucid puppy. Is it possible just to include a couple of driver packages in the iso so as to be able to offer them at boot-up?

This is going to be my OS of choice in my old laptop, just want it for checking e-mail etc. when i'm out and about, and I also want to customize it a little further to make it a rescue CD for broken installs of windoze for my friends and family, gonna add wine and a couple of antivirus/antimalware scanners to use on them, this worked great for rescuing my old laptop, thought i'd pass that along as it was passed on to me, good karma ya know.

I'm going to try Iron and see how that goes. Iron is Chrome(ium) stripped of google spyware, there's a Linux distro now and i'm running it in Ubuntu, and it is way faster than Firefox, three times faster in fact according to Peacekeeper scores. I'll post when I have a result to share.

Hi Dragynn. Someone at google keeps deleting your post, you know, the one where you disclosed the results of your speed tests, demonstrating how spectacularly Iron performs on your puppy. Razz Laughing Laughing Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Could you post again please Question Wink Wink

Someone at Google? I'm not sure I follow you, do you mean over at the Ubuntu forum? Hmmm, that wouldn't surprise me, you guys here know how I like to run my mouth, lol, and I have sung Puppy's praises several times over there, while lamenting Ubuntu's mediocre stability.

Here's part of one:

No actually, and I took screenshots to prove it, Peacekeeper scores for me were almost 200% faster in Iron as compared to Firefox.

I talk a lot of crap, but I don't lie and I don't exaggerate....much.

And just FYI, the fastest speeds I got, were using Puppy Linux with Iron, I was hitting almost 4-core speeds with an old 2-core Athlon and ddr-400. Fastest thing i've ever seen, instant gratification.

I have the screenshots somewhere in this mess, lol, but I believe it was 3872 on Lucid Puppy 5.1.1, almost 600 points higher than the same exact setup running Ubuntu, a seriously significant difference. And that was with adblocking and several other features that slow down a browser enabled, I need to go back and try it without that stuff running, I'm betting I can break 4000. And this is all on a 5 year old processor using ddr400 ram and a cheap motherboard. Wink

I'm waiting for the Linux version of Iron 6 to come out, i'll give that a whirl and post results when it becomes available.[/quote]

*edit* Ahh, just remembered what topic this is posted in, lol, okay, ya got me, need to run Turbodog with Iron and check speeds.

Can Turbodog run packages from the Lucid repo? That's where someone (I still don't know who but I am seriously grateful) added the latest version of Iron for linux.

Will try here shortly.

Subject description: cannot find the pcmcia network card

Turbopup 1.0, fresh install (using loadlin in DOS to boot)
does not recognize a 3com 3c589 network card which works in
the same computer with Puppy 4.31. Even if I manually
install the driver module. Do I need to add something?

Turbopup won't boot in Thinkpad 770E but I think regular
4.2 won't either. Retro 4.31 does.

I am hoping to install Turbopup to a Compaq Armada 233Mhz
1573DM with 64MB memory (where standard puppy is ridiculously
slow) and to an LTE5280 with 80MB memory.

I'm very interested in a step-by-step of how to install the latest Iron once someone has figured it out.

I tried cd turbopup 42 alpha3a "live" today (is this the latest & best one? I meanly use older desktops, IDE).

It seemed to work alright, only at search via its standard browser SeaMonkey and using the human language input box, "google" could only find puppy-related items/sites .... I tried to reach my favourite search engine "metaseek" in vain.

Must I try an older version?

Turbopup 4.2alpha3a is a very old release.

Try the latest one --> Turbopup Xtreme v1.0

It's lighter, faster and more up-to-date.

Now where's Sneekylinux to post a review of this puppy (Turbopup Xtreme)?

The video he posted on YouTube is of a very old alpha version of the fat Turbopup.

A lot has changed since then. Turbopup Xtreme is a totally different dog Smile

Tried the cd (live) and it crashed in both xorg and xvesa; several other puppies work well so I'll just forget this one.
