As I said - I expected the layered filesystem to automatically save any and all changes directly to the 'top' layer and then write them to the CF/IDE disk according to the deferred write mechanism embedded within Puppy to limit the number of writes to the CF card. As it is, none of my customization is kept and the next boot I have to go thru the whole set of questions asking for keyboard, language, video probe, etc. Any configuration I do (like to the browser or the wifi connector) is lost and I have to go thru all of that every time I boot as well.
Whenever I have installed other Puppy 'flavors' all of my customization is automatically written to the partition and saved. Here I get the 'Session will not be saved' msg and then the system shuts down.
Any suggestions?
Rick

ok after some more research i found that on pupeee the module in use is the ath9k for ahteros 802.11n wireless lan devices. now when i looked through the available modules on turbopup the only one was the ath5k module and that didnt work at all so how exactly would i go about doing this? should i find the ath9k module and install with modprobe (if that is the case can someone give me a dl ink) or is it easier then that because i saw madwifi in the /lib/modules folder and i remember in ubuntu one of the workarounds involved that in some way. i apologize if my questions are kinda noob like but i am really new to linux and still trying to find my sea legs

Subject description: turbopup Xtreme v1.0 DILLO: can't print using CUPS |
|
Hi ttuuxxx,
thanks again for the «dillo» version of turbopup!
I Cannot print ...
on a fresh pup_save ( + seamonkey-libs-tiny--1.1.2.pet + SaveFlash.pet added see page 29)
as mentionned on last post page29, I could not add a printer through the CUPS Manage printing menu nor through the cups server (enter http://localhost.631/admin/ in dillo) : clicking on «Add Printer» pops up a «Save Link as» dialog box....(?? what for ?).
I then manually tried to add a printer (i.e. the CUPS-PDF.ppd one located in /etc/cups/ppd) using a command line:
| Code: | # /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p CUPS-PDF -E -D local -P /etc/cups/ppd/CUPS-PDF.ppd
# lpstat -p
printer CUPS-PDF is idle. enabled since Sat 01 May 2010 01:30 11 PM GMT-8
#
|
Now, going back to Dillo to http://localhost:631 (or using the CUPS Manage printing menu), clicking on «Printers» thumbnail shows that CUPS-PDF is well present.
Print test: after reboot, and say, using Geany or Abiword or Gnumeric: CUPS-PDF is listed among the printers; printing a dummy text does not print any .pdf file nor pop up a «save as» box.
many thanks for any answer
Cheers, Charlie

Unbelievable! This thread has exceeded 100,000 views
This proves that Turbopup Xtreme is still 'xtremely' popular
Who knows, maybe we'll get a TP 1.1 upgrade / Service Pack in the future

Never been a fan of this one, but felt a duty to try it again with Dillo. As a live CD, of course, it isn't 'turbo' anything - it doesn't have the well-documented turbo-boot. After all this time, it is unacceptable that the initial boot delay hasn't been fixed to a more reasonable value. With this version, although I am a great fan of Dillo, the only official version of Firefox in the repository is the old chesnut Bon Echo 2 and Opera, the fastest browser on Earth doesn't put in an appearance. No Flash in 2010 is not acceptable. Sorry, there are other, smaller, faster and better conceived offerings. If John's excellent, but ageing MeanPup isn't to your liking, try one of gray's derivatives, for example; Xin looks promising, too - if only I could get it to boot!
Oh yes, the final ignominy, it doesn't shut down on SiS, and doubtless all those other chipsets, despite BK having fixed this in most of the latest Quirkies. I deleted it.

There's a nice little package of the latest Opera snapshot I posted a few hours ago - check out the Quirky 1.0 feedback thread. It's smokin' fast (!)

A service pack (that will include Flash as well) is coming soon
P.S. Don't worry folks, I think I still have a copy of the original Turbopup Xtreme ISO somewhere. I'll reupload the ISO ASAP.

I lost my old burned copy of this... looking forward to you uploading ti again. Love what you've done with the puplet synth. And actually, I think it'd make an amazing base for a project Im working on. Any objections to taking your work and expanding on it some for another release here on the forums?
EDIT:
I found my ISO copy and I am uploading it to Rapidshare until someone is able to put it on an offical server somewhere. Sorry for using Rapidshare, but it was my only option at the time.
You can download it with THIS LINK.

Time for Sourceforge/Launchpad |
|
Hi,
I have to say that I love the work you have done. The Turbopup derivitive has a much better appeal than the original in the long term I believe.
I think it's time for a Sourceforge or a Launchpad page. This project should be expanded.
Thanks for your work,
Will
