OxygenOffice extended openoffice package for puppy linux
I do not see an obvious, to me, link to OxOf (OxygenOffice) on page 1 of this thread.
What am I missing, please?
Our son is doing a ton of writing for his two online college courses and has requested OpenOffice - but it sounds as though OxOf may be better.
Thanks!

There's some links to older versions on this page: http://puppylover.netsons.org/dokupuppy ... fice_suite
ASUS A1000, 800Mhz PIII Coppermine!, 192Mb RAM, 10Gb IBM Travelstar HDD, Build date August 2001.
Found it here: http://puppy.cnbits.com/node/974
Simple "Save Link Target As"
BTW: Is OxOf likely to continue to be maintained for Puppy?
Sure would hate to get our son invested in learning it only to have it go stale.
Thanks for the help locating it!

Just to be clear, for newbies:
Once the Ooo sfs is converted, simply copy it to
* your home disk (this means: the disk where your pupsave file resides)

Are you saying that OxygenOffice will not work there?
I did the conversion and it is in the same folder as my pupsave - but it does not show up in the menu.musher0 wrote: On next boot, the Oxygen Office sfs will appear automatically; if not, you'll have to activate the sfs loader, and then it'll show the sfs. I do not find anything anywhere called "sfs loader".
Where might that be, please?

Hello again, edoc.
You say:
> My pupsave is located in /mnt/home/pup431
> Are you saying that OxygenOffice will not work there?
Answer: Exactly the contrary! Any SFS file should be in /mnt/home, however, not in the Puppy sub-directory.
///////////////////////
You say:
> I do not find anything anywhere called "sfs loader".
Answer:
Click on Menu -> System -> Boot manager configure boot up
When the boot manager shows up, click on the top green button, the one marked: "Choose which extra SFS files to load on bootup".
A two panel rectangle appears. The available SFS files are in the left panel, the already active SFS's are on the right.
If your OOo SFS is in your home directory (as above), it should appear in the left panel.
Overline it with the mouse, and then click the ADD button. It will transfer to the right side panel.
Then click on the "ok" button at the bottom of the rectangle.
Reboot. When the reboot is complete, you should now have at least one of the following:
At least one OOo icon on your desktop, AND/OR
the OOo components might be in your menu, like so:
Ex.: Menu -> Document -> SWriter (or OOwriter)
Ex.: Menu -> Calculate -> Scalc (or OOcalc)
And so on for SImpress and SDraw (usually under "Graphics"; depending on the OO SFS version, sometimes SImpress is under the "Utility" sub-menu.)
That's it! Break a leg and keep me posted!

Hello, again.
Sorry to hear that.
Possible solutions I know of that usually works:
1) Try renaming the file to oxygenoffice301_431-sfs4.sfs.
2) If that fails, try installing jrb's SFS-Linker at
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 837#352837
(first post, page 1, first line).
Other that that, I'm beat, sorry.

Hello, again, edoc.
About this:
> BTW: Is OxOf likely to continue to be maintained for Puppy?
> Sure would hate to get our son invested in learning it only to have it go stale.
For the record, until yesterday (really), I was using Oxygen Office O 2.4.1. I'm a professional translator-editor, and OOO 2.4 allowed me to work in any text my clients threw at me. However highly typeset with graphics and logos and such these texts may be, my clients never perceive the difference because I am working on OOO in Linux and not on Word in Windows. Never a complaint. I also maintain my client database and invoicing on OOO.
So even if your son is into writing an encyclopedia or something like that, the version number should not make a difference.
As to maintaining it, I don't know where ecomoney (the compiler of the Oxygen Office SFS) is hiding... If we all hold hands and concentrate, I'm sure he'll knock twice on the ouija table. ecomoney, are you there?
But seriously, if my memory is not failing me, my experience has been that ecomoney provides the Puppy community with a new version of OOO once a year or so.
Also, the development of OOO is always a bit behind that of OO, for obvious reasons. However the OOO developers usually incorporate something that OO doesn't have, to sort of make up for the difference in version numbers.
In short, my guess would be that an installation of OOO v. 3.0.1 could last you for a couple of years.
I changed to OO 3.2 (dev version) because I'm moving my entire Puppy setup to dpup, and I wanted a fresh start on everything, not because OOO 2.4 let me down or got stale. (I used to be in Puppy 4.12.)
Another concern you mention is "learning it". Well, no concern there, the commands of OxOf 3.0.1. are the same as those of the old OO 1.5 (2002), and even of StarOffice 5.1 (1999; the great-grand-dad of OO). Besides, the Open Office community is so large now, so active and so international, I don't think OpenOffice (or OxOf) is ever going to be "orphan" program.
BFN.

OO 3.2 (dev version). Both SFS and PET packages available here:

It's working! It's beautiful!
Our son works on scripts and other text and graphics-based projects with friends elsewhere in the world so this will work well for him there as well as in college.
Thanks!
I need to get my PC updated to 4.31 or better and load it as well.
I tend to exchange docs with others on the regular basis - and will be doing more of it soon - so this will work really well for me!
I'll probably load it on all of our computers just to have a common base.
Tell me more about dpup versus 4.31, should I look at that?

Yay! Three cheers for you, edoc!
You didn't say whether it's OxOf or OOo 3.2 that's working for you, but that's ok! You tell us later!
I would recommend dpup ONLY for the adventurous at this time.
Nothing bad will happen if you use it for production, except it's not meant to be used that way yet. It's still in the making, and some aspects of it are still very much in flux. So the middle-of-the-road user might get disoriented and confused. Also, some docs /infos are not written yet, 'cause the programmers are still too busy programming. Dpup is at 4.82 beta 4 now, beta 5 probably at the end of the month (Nov. 09). Once a stable version of dpup is produced, it will open the entire Debian repositories. I'm told Debian has the world's largest library of Linux software, and so you will have access to a lot of programs directly from the dpup Puppy.
In the meantime, you can choose Puppy 4.3.1 or ttuuxx's "Puppies" 4.3.1. To make a long story short, the main difference is that the regular Puppy by BK (Puppy's founder) uses Seamonkey as the browser, and ttuuxx's version uses Firefox 3.5 with extensions. Both are stable versions, very reliable and very good. Lots of docs in their forums. Choosing one over the other is a matter of personal preference, really.
One I really like is the big Cielo+, based on Puppy 4.2.1; it has a recent version of Open Office in it, too. So I installed it on a DVD as a live-DVD, and I use it on the road.
Try the lean and elegant Boxpup 4.13 if you like the OpenBox environment. Try Mark Ulrich's NY-Pup if your heart skips a beat when somebody whispers the word "Gnomish" in your ear! Or NOP, if you like the xfce desktop; it's sort of specialized in writing applications, too. Or aragon's recent "bbnobrowser.iso" if you're the McGyver-ist type, and you'd like to start from a basis (almost scratch!) and install your own programs on top of it. There's also Lighthouse Pup if you'd like to have a well-rounded KDE environment in Puppy. There are so many good Puppy derivatives I cannot do them all justice and mention them all here.
Browse around and try a couple! Your choice! Have fun!

In my excitement I should have clarified the environment:
Puppy 4.31
OxygenOffice 3.01
The fix was merely to rename the section in the OxOff filename to 431 from 420
musher0 set me right:
1) Try renaming the file to oxygenoffice301_431-sfs4.sfs.
I am watching Barry's work on WOOF and am amazed!
I guess I will stick with 4.31 for now on all sic of our family laptops and see how things shake out over the upcoming holidays in Puppy-world!

I have run into an oddity.
OxygenOffice can display this document but the formatting is wrong and I cannot edit it:
http://www.bethel.edu/registrar/Transcr ... Web_1_.doc
I tried changing permissions but it doesn't allow that.
I tried saving as ODT and changing those permissions but the block on changing permissions is persistent across filetypes.
I need to print and complete this soon and right now it is a mess.
Help?

It sure would be interesting to discover why the other file cannot be edited.

I need to get these out asap but will get back in there and experiment later.
Just figured that y'all out there may have seen this before and know a quick slick trick to get around it - probably is simple like the Copy you suggested.
