Running from a live cd, still not getting any response clicking on icons in a rox window (same problem with a frugal install on another computer). Right clicking on a document and selecting 'open as text' does nothing either. Am I missing something obvious, or is something amiss? I've used a mouse before, so it can't be me.... can it?

@Keef- you are right, the "Open as Text" link is not working yet. If you want to edit a file, start Leafpad, and then open the file inside leafpad. Menu entry for Tea does not work either.

One thing that does work is installing a pre-downloaded deb package. My printer driver comes as three debs, which I keep handy so I don't have to keep downloading them. Just put them in the root directory, left click on one, and the package manager installs it, just as though it were a pet.

i've been trying out dpup. it's cool beans baby. 8) Any who, i noticed that abiword word wasn't popping up when the icon was clicked , so i pulled out my mad scientist hat and looked around. here's how i got abiword working. call up the package manager and select lenny-main and all in the left colum . look for the abiword plugin for goffice and click onit. it will of course tell you the missing dependancy . click on examine dependancies and install. abiword will work then . hope that helps somes .

Yes I've been working on a icewm package and icon upgrades for mini-icons and pixmaps for 2.5 days, then I tried to play a video with gxine that I installed from puppy 4.0 series, but it didn't work, then I tried my vlc package and that didn't work, then I went to the package manager and it download and installed but it didn't get the missing libs, then I re-ran the package manager and it FROZE, so I opened Pprocess and went to kill it, I also noticed Dbus was running so I went to kill that also, and guess what ???????????????? Total Pc Crash. I was running live with no pupsave, I lost atleast 50hrs of work, new themes I made for Icewm hundreds of icons I downloaded, I made a nice new icon for the pet package manager, I redid the shutdown script, etc. All gone........ moral to the story, always use a pupsave, and never kill Dbus.

I found the easiest way to access leafpad was to simply drag the leafpad icon to the desktop, then any text i need to look at i drag over the leafpad icon and it opens. Not elegant but with my very limited knowledge of the system it works, might give some more knowledgable person an easy way to make a link?.

RP-PPPOE doesn't work - what a shame. I can't even use this build.

See the post by 'happypuppy' in Barry's blog.I have a similar experience with dpup.

Hey Panzer its still early stages, we'll find fixes for issues.
I just compiled it on 4.2 for you, maybe it will work, when I get my version of dpup and the compiler working, I'll recompile it for you. Until then maybe try this package. Tell me if it works ok ?

also if you wanted the compiled lenny rp-pppoe here's the package you would need
http://debian.oregonstate.edu/debian/po ... 3_i386.deb

I don't think you need ppp that should be included right?
If you missing any just tell which ones work or not?

I am not sure why but dpup is the fastest pup I have ever run across.I finally got rid of my Windows partition and gave the dual core to my wife. Dpup is running rings around NOP413 and NewyearsPUP.

Pmusic and the media player do not work but get woof woof from alsa configuration.

Thats what I've been saying Fishy, its really nice, Don't worry about Pmusic, Once I get Dpup working with a compiler, I'll compile alsa player, It also takes low system resources, plays more media formats, and shuts down when you turn it off. Most things 'P' related are great, But Pmusic doesn't do it for me. Its the first 'P' application that slows down my system by a lot, makes my mouse drag really bad, and I have tons of resources.

Pfind is another one - extremely buggy. There's less than 50% chance that it will start or complete a search. It will crash, hang or won't terminate when closed.
We need a better (reliable) search application for Puppy.

Did you try Barry's spup (SlackPup)? I find that one even faster than dpup.

Hi Barry,
I've been playing with woof since day one and love the scripts. I think that I sent you a message a loooooong time ago about a concept system, and woof is very close. I think if I could isolate you and a few choice others, I might be able to help you skip a few steps to the top.
I don't want a mocking forum comments on the subject so i will pm if you are interested in some fresh thoughts on the OS in general.

I am very excited as you are amidst the development of pieces of my puzzle too. As it stands now I have built from woof for every version. i found that slack build had a few errors reguarding the hack install script(glibc, and a few others). Many of my comments in private should address issues you are working on(from the scripting changes i have been looking over).

I also have been learning more about the guts of puppy over the last few years. I have been chewing on the puppy scripts for a while, and really have been waiting for some time to address my more serious endeavor with you. I see that you are about fresh ideas. Are you ready for radical? Something that turns the Distro and moreover OS realm upside down? I'm doing this for a lot of reasons. Myself, My friends, My fellow GNU/Linux users, etc. I will do it alone, but i would be most honored if i could bring a few true blue heads and hearts on this voyage.

After your response(if you are interested) i will PM you with a list of others i know would help bring this idea to fruition with the quality and character it deserves. I promise you that this concept is worth the time, and will change your current project goals(hopefully to be inline with mine). Thanks Barry

Well, I'm always open to new ideas. Certainly if you fix any bugs in Woof I'm very interested. As far as working with a team, I'm at a phase in life where I'm less interested -- just want to play with ideas and develop them on my own. But of course, feed me a new idea and it may influence what I do. This often happens, someone suggests something, then suddenly they find I've done it, perhaps a year later.

Hey Barry feel free to extract the throbber I made for Seamonkey in 4.2 Final, and reuse it if you like in your future projects :) I think it was actually a bit smaller also.
