I'm only smart enough to rip off themes I already like (Tribal Widow in this case), too dumb (or lazy) to fully publish new ones. There's some trick to getting them fully in there that I haven't looked into.

The only hing I sweated over was the pager. Possibly because I'm not fully used to the idea of multiple desktops yet, even though I'm starting to like it. But getting the colors (shades of gray, black and white) to mean something is not easy.

Back up a theme, copy-paste this stuff in, change the blacks to blues and you're good to go. I made custom icons for some docs I use daily in mtpaint, easy enough to do.

<Border>
<Font antialias="true">-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*</Font>
<Width>5</Width>
<Height>20</Height>
<Foreground>#cccccc</Foreground>
<Background>#000000</Background>
<ActiveForeground>#ffffff</ActiveForeground>
<ActiveBackground>#333333</ActiveBackground>
</Border>

<Tray autohide="false">
<Font antialias="true">-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*</Font-->
<Height>24</Height>
<Alignment>center</Alignment>
<Foreground>#cccccc</Foreground>
<Background>#000000</Background>
<ActiveForeground>#ffffff</ActiveForeground>
<ActiveBackground>#000000</ActiveBackground>
</Tray>

<Pager>
<Outline>#ffffff</Outline>
<Foreground>#cccccc</Foreground>
<Background>#000000</Background>
<ActiveForeground>#ffffff</ActiveForeground>
<ActiveBackground>#cccccc</ActiveBackground>
</Pager>

<Load>
<Program>xload</Program>
<Outline>#000000</Outline>
<Foreground>#cccccc</Foreground>
<Background>#333333</Background>
</Load>

<Popup enabled="true">
<Font antialias="true">-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*</Font-->
<Outline>#000000</Outline>
<Foreground>#000000</Foreground>
<Background>#ffffff</Background>
</Popup>

<Menu>
<Font antialias="false">-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*</Font>
<Foreground>#cccccc</Foreground>
<Background>#000000</Background>
<ActiveForeground>#ffffff</ActiveForeground>
<ActiveBackground>#333333</ActiveBackground>
</Menu>

Hey You should make a Howtoo for this unique theme you built. Its really cool and different from the rest you always see (trying to look like another OS for instance :oops: Which im guilty of)

Ah, I would not presume to write a how-to, as I have been using Linux full-time for all of a week and cannot do more than edit the themes of others at this point.

It's all very personal for me--I am conducting an experiment to reduce things in my life to their bare minimum. I got rid of my car. I eat the same $1.50 worth of food every day. My last music recording project consisted of six hours of the sound of my computer fan. I have sold off all of my books and records (the last was like ripping my heart out). I kicked Bill Gates out. I kicked him again, and again (then I woke up)...

So the black desktop is just an attempt at personal consistency.

Actually, I would make the icons and foregrounds completely black (instead of very dark gray) if I could see them better. I have to cheat to compensate for fading eyesight.

I meant to say the active backgrounds that are very dark gray due to encroaching blindness. My hearing is shot to hell too--editing 6 hours of computer fan noise at maximum volume with headphones was possibly a mistake...

Ah, I learned myself a new trick (Puppy already knowed it but he weren't a-talkin'). I can get at files directly by putting commands in the menu like

<Program label="theme config">beaver ~/.jwm/themes/jwm-tribal-widow</Program>

which is specifically to edit my edited version of the desktop above. Now I can do that (hopefully) for all the desktop icons (which are all links to files) and go PURE black...

My computer has a first name, it's P-U-P-P-Y...

Ive been thinking about becoming a minimalist..........It scares me >< Living life to the saying I rather have and not need then need and not have its a hard change.

ABout the Howtoo I made one on how to XP your menu and icons it was simple took me half hour. I just made it all drag and drop stuff i made a menu the icons and jsut told pple where to drag them too.

How about this?

#59 Post by puppypilgrim »

With a special thanks to MU, I have able to incorporate Torsmo to the desktop. I have long sought simplicity and used black backgrounds with Windoze. Newly inspired by Bugman, I have modded IceWM to yield this look.

Puppy 1.07 with patch.
IceWM using Win95 theme.
Default icons replaced with generated MT Paint icon.
Black color set at 0.
Text in grey.

Heh, heh. xxxxPilgrim is a moniker I use for forum handles. So for my golf forum, I use golfpilgrim, for Puppy, puppypilgrim, squashpilgrim, etc. No problem with either picture you linked! ;)

Thank you for your help once again.

Here's another one promoting Linux in general. Torsmo at top right corner, desktop icons from Gentoo running Puppy 1.07 displayed on a 23" BenQ widescreen monitor at 1280 width.
