Hello.

I finally got to it, after resolving the randomly flickering screen bug in
the new ubuntu-based pups. Since I found no satisfactory driver or
software work-around on the Web, I overcame it by calling back from
retirement :) an old Gigabyte (nee Radeon) graphics card instead of
using the built-in VIA graphics card.

This is a screen capture of the VividPup 6.5_PAE assembled by 666philb.
Some details here:
-- https://archive.org/details/Puppy_Linux_Vividpup --.
ISO file available here:
-- https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... .5_PAE.iso --.
(666philb published the 6.5_PAE version before his current Vividpup-beta.)

The window manager is pekwm-0.1.17, codename "pekdon" (Jan. 2015),
built from source. Available from:

The window in the middle shows disq-lib3.sh, my less-based more
complete replacement for the "factory-installed" partview.

The pekwm theme used is the minimalistic but slick Audrey theme. Also
exists as a GTK-2.0 theme.

Pekwm's "harbour" (top right; equivalent to fluxbox's "slit") houses the
ascpu cpu load monitor (top) and the stalonetray system tray (bottom).

The "menu" icon calls an aemenu made up of Puppy default apps (in
addition to the regular pekwm menu). This concept frees the desktop for
more essential icons.

The clock shown is a colored xclock.

I replaced the "ex-works" pmount with a revised MuppyQuickMount
(bottom left corner).

The bottom bar is bmpanel2, with customized Light-T theme. The wood-
colored "pill" toggles bmpanel2 on and off. You can get bmpanel2 from
-- https://github.com/nsf/bmpanel2 --.

The desktop picture is "Polka_Dots_&_Moonbeams_by_SirPecanGum.jpg"
from the Ubuntu Vivid Vervet Community Wallpaper Contest archive.

All in all, I find this pekwm environment more productive and quicker than
the default ROX/jwm combination, while maintaining the Puppy spirit. It's
also more beautiful! :)

In other words, here's another tribute to Puppy's versatility! :)

BFN.

(At 60% of original size) As you can see, the pekwm menu can stay on
screen while using another menu, such as the aemenu. This is for show,
since with only one mouse, you can launch only one app at a time.

Sure, but where are the twenty-three-plus partitions like James C has?:D:wink:

Yuk. I'll never eat an apple again for fear of taking a bite off a Puppy. :(

Edit: A few years back, there was a similar, but dark, backdrop with a
penguin in the shape of an apple. Yuk, too.... ;)

Hello,

This is a somewhat customized Slacko 5.7 running on a Asus EEE 1100 PC. The desktop has been changed with JQ8 icons added. The wallpaper I've had for a very long time; so I don't remember where it came from. Enjoy.

If I know how to get a good conky or dock in my tahr linux I would definitely put it.

But I still feel like this looks kinda good right now ^_^. Puppy HURRAY!

Hi,

Probably already asked, but didn't straight found the url.

Using tahr puppy:
1/ how to change at once the font colour of all the desktop icons? For example into red.
Desktop>Font Manager does not have such an option
Only by changing the theme???

2/ Desktop>ChTheme GTK/Qt theme changer
It's possible to change the environnement theme, but how to do it for the desktop menu, where is the change?

Thanks

Hello live.

Here's how to do it:

Open a ROX window.

Right-click -> Options

Options -> Pinboard

Pinboard -> Ink

gcolor2 (the color chooser) opens and you can choose any color you wish.
Once you have chosen your color, it will transfer back to the ROX-Filer
automatically.

Please see picture. (Sorry for the French, but how to do it should be clear
just by the pictures.)

Thanks musher0.

OK, for font color.

But what about background of the desktop menus?

Also, how to associate for instance CTRL + left click to open with a certain app? For instance, left click on md files opens Geany, but CTRL + left click opens in default browser?

My pleasure! :)

Desktop menus are commanded by the window manager. Some window managers,
like pekwm, use the colors provided by the current gtk theme. I know jwm controls
its own colors, so you may wish to try out various jwm themes. It is in submenu
"desktop" => jwm configuration => first button at the top right. Aside from that, jwm
can control further the colors of the menu if you edit file jwmrc-personal in
/root/.jwm.

But I am not a specialist of jwm, so you may want to PM member MochiMoppei,
who is. There are a few other members on this forum quite knowledgeable about
jwm, so maybe the best for you would be to open a separate thread with a title like
"How do I change the menu colors in jwm?" You should start getting replies shortly
after you initiated your thread.

As to associations of mouse clicks and various keys, etc., to call particular apps,
try to find and install a program called xbindkeys. I know we have a pet archive of it
somewhere on the forum. But please search yourself, I'm on a project today, and I
need to stay focused. Thanks for your understanding.

I've only used xbindkeys a couple of times. I'm a pekwm fan, and pekwm has its
own keybindings routine incorporated. It makes things simpler, IMHO. I know jwm
also has a number of "pre-fabricated" key bindings, but I do not know how much
you can do with them. Again, I'm not a specialist of jwm.

I hope this helps nevertheless.

Bye for now.

I personally find most pup's come with too small for comfort text or colour schemes that conflict with general usage/working. I spent a considerable amount of time tweaking mine to get font sizes and colours that were more comfortable for me. There's a vast range of different places/things to tweak, global font size, loading qt to set font size for the likes of skype, jwm configuration, gtk configuration ...etc. I ended up manually tweaking the text in existing theme's to get all of the different component parts (jwm, gtk etc) looking somewhat similar/appropriate/balanced.

@rufwoof: I agree. I had a 1440x900 15" laptop and everything was just too small, I ended up ragequitting from too much font hacks that looked weird and giving the laptop away for free and keeping my 1024x768 laptop instead (which looks ok). Even on 1024x768, sometimes I am squinting to read menu items and firefox pages and wish I had native 800x600 (not rescaled). And I am not blind, close to 20/20 vision! How do people with these newfangled 1920x1080 laptops do it?

Firefox standard zoom is OK but I tend to always have zoom page addon installed as the way I have it set up when you right click on the current scale size it toggles between scaling/not scaling images.

It also remembers zoom levels for different sites. So a case of using the - and + either side of the size value to adjust page text down/up.

I tend to customise my firefox to have home page, downloads, NoScript and zoom next to the textual menu.

I guess it was awkward at first, but now I use it without thinking as I browse around the net.

I like the look of that oranchelo icon pack - but to be honest the firefox icon looks strangely like a fat kangaroo.
