Here's the changes since Fatdog 110.

* Update Kernel to 2.6.28.6, without 4k stacks and with PCI_MSI, for improved Ndiswrapper support and to support the latest ATI driver.
* Fixed Lxpanel not being visible at boot. Thanks to Wow.
* Turned off auto update in Firefox. Thanks to eztuxer.
* Added Chntpw and GUI. Used for resetting MS Windows passwords.
* Added a GUI to make partition backups of NTFS (Windows). This will backup a NTFS partition into one big compressed image file or into multiple smaller files. Tested with Windows 2000 and Vista. You'll find these last two under "Utility" in the menu.
* Recompile Openbox to fix a mistake.
* Several other small fixes and improvements.

* Upgrade to Flash 10
* Upgrade Gftp.
* Changed kernels to linux-2.6.28.4
* Changed to squashfs 3.4 with lzma compression.
* Upgraded ALSA libraries.
* Changed pup_save from ext2 to ext3.
* Fixed cancel job bug in CUPS.
* Added modem support for Blackberry (Verizon 8803e)
* Other stuff I can't remember.

Added the kernel source to the devx file along with qt3, SVN, and other stuff.

Along with the devx file and a pet package for ATI's fglrx 9.2.

Note: I did not compile the extra modem drivers. I did enable "Development" modules. So there is some different hardware support. For instance, the rtl8180 wifi module is in there.

Last time I downloaded your previous version, I was pleasantly surprised.
Fuller apps with not so FAT weight. I am really interested in trying your newer version, but the download location is THE place I can NOT download.

I do know uploading is so slow but would you please upload it to somewhere else as well? Somewhere like Adrive, torrentreactor, softpea etc.

I hope I will get the new version soon.

This continues to be a useful workhorse. Let's hope, in the fullness of time, it can be trimmed to <100Mb .iso, for starters, then to 50Mb.
Apart from the issues raised for 110 still extant, (including picture sizing, kirk!), there has to be a show stopper with GXine - nobody likes it, poor reputation, riddled with bugs and, more importantly, it won't bring me wwoz.org from just across the Bay from you!! [streaming address is wwoz-sc.streamguys.com:80] No demuxer found. The basic Xine works every time (yes, different dependencies, libraries, whatever, but it's been done already in other variants). Something needs doing PDQ.
Wouldn't it be nice if MU/wow/gray/kirk could pool their efforts to blast the opposition outa da water? Maybe need non-US, non-German developers to add all those functions like libdvdcss that are essential for any modern distro? Give those Hollyweirdos the two/one-finger salute. May they drown in their own greed.

As far as Gxine/Xine UIs go, It was a toss up for me. I went with Gxine because it had a simpler interface. But if people prefer Xine-ui, I'll change it next time. Xine-ui is available from petget, I haven't tried it, but it should work.

I'm afraid there are speed issues with puppylinux.ca..sometimes it runs with good speed and sometimes it's very slow. We are looking into where the problems are...sorry guys.

Puppylinux.asia will most likely run out of bandwidth tonight or tomorrow...hopefully my host will let us run a bit over limit.

The black screen is back on USB key install with AAO.
System loads up but no X & does not respond to "ctrl+alt+backspace", or "alt+F1, F2, etc...".
It works OK on the CD with Xorg @ 1024x600 24 bits.

I have started using this because:
- SMP (I have dual-core - w/o smp, the undetected CPU keeps eating my battery)
- fglrx driver (vesa driver refuse to work with 1280x800, and radeon driver didn't detect my card).

I'm pleasantly surprised that my broadcom wireless works out of the box, with wl driver working straight away (no bmc43xx or b43xxx) (sort of ... see below) - I have expected that I would need to compile the STA driver from broadcom site.

Anyway, wireless finally works, with the following tweaks:
a) for whatever reason, /sys/class/net/eth0 doesn't have "wireless" entry, so network wizard doesn't detect it as wireless. I had to hack net-setup.sh to force it to recognise wl as wireless.
b) once this is done, wag-profiles.sh says wl is not WPA-capable. Again, I hack wag-profiles.sh to force "wl" driver to use wext.
Once this hurdles are done, network-wizard works flawlessly.

The AMD/ATI Control Center, however, gives me a segfault.

Unfortunately, pidgin doesn't work.

After initial installation from official puppy4 repository, pidgin refuses to connect to MSN and Googletalk, saying that certain SSL/TLS library is missing.

Examining the debug output, ssl-tls.so failed to load --- so by doing ldd ssl-tls.so, I found out certain shared library is not there (libnssutil3, libsofttkn3, and libsmime3). All the three exist in /usr/lib/firefox, so I symlinked all three to /usr/lib. MSN is corrected this way, but Gtalk crashed pidgin (=mentioning somethingl like double-free).

Pidgin worked out of the box in 4.1.2

EDIT: MSN doesn't work also, I was mistaken.

I'm guessing Pidgin doesn't work because it was compiled against Seamonkey's versions of nss and nspr. The options would be to recompile it (Probably not easy, but worth a try), try a package from another distro, or copy the nss & nspr libs from 4.1.2.

Could you attach your versions of net-setup.sh and wag-profiles.sh?

I tried compiling pidgin before, and gave up (too many dependencies to chase *especially* on that libnss and libnspr things :p). Is the firefox headers in devx? If yes, I'll probably give it a try again ... otherwise it will be too tough if I have to re-compile entire firefox just to get pidgin working...

Anyway these are the changes, they are very simple.

Change to net-setup: I inserted this to line 1251: Change to wag-profiles.sh: I modified the line 287 so that it looks like this: any idea why the segfault on ATI control center? aticonfig runs fine, though, so I can live without the control center.

Kirk, Thanks for the updated FatDog111. Looks like 4k stacks was my Ndiswrapper rt73usb driver problem. I'm using that e140 box and wifi now to post this .... the Ndiswrapper worked just like it should ..... Thanks again, KJ

No the Firefox headers aren't in there, I grabbed the binary from Mozilla.

I've made many pet packages for fglrx. I've had that happen in the past with the control center, then it will work in the next version. Most of the fglrx driver that you download is a binary, just the kernel module gets compiled.

It is great to see these derivatives with newish kernels.

Fatdog is very good. So good, in fact, I've remastered it with a whack of goodies for a neighbour who has shown interest in replacing Vista on a new laptop.

Actually, all those is not needed as I don't need to recompile. I don't even have to install seamonkey. I got pidgin from the official repos working by doing this after installing it. That automagically fixes it. So, I'm happy

For the benefit of others...

I'm very surprised and pleased that Virtualbox 2.1.4 install straight away here. I was expecting to have a few problems ... but the installer ("All Distributions i386") worked straight away, not a single error message.

All I needed to do was to add a group named vboxusers (addgroup vboxusers) and assign "root" as its members, and then restart.

Note: Need devx installed as the installer needs to compile vboxdrv kernel module.

Thanks for this release kirk, this fatdog really kicks butt. I'm starting to consider to replace my venerable 2.15CE with this one.

I'm planning on updating Fatdog to 112 next week. If anyone has any bug fixes please post them. Here's what I've got so far:

* upgrade firefox to 3.0.7. (compiled from source this time)
* upgrade Flash 10 to the latest version.
* Grabbed Joe's nightly build of JWM. This will be the default now that fullscreen problems are gone.
* Xine-ui replaces Gxine.
* added /usr/lib/firefox to the LD path.
* include SDL headers.
* upgraded Dougal's network wizard to latest version with Jamesbond's mods.
* upgraded Pburn
* removed module ssb from the initrd.gz, no idea why it was there and it causes problems with bcm43xx and wl.
* upgrade Pfind

I'll be out of town for a few days so there may be a delay in responding.
