A dialog similar to the delete dialog should pop up, confirm the permission change, and then run the file. It should work this time.
"permission denied"

Actually the libraries are there. If you open /usr/share/supertuxkart/bin/supertuxkart you will find them. However, the run_game.sh script defines the location for use, which is why we use it. Anyway, the problem is I made a typo in it run_game.sh. Right click on run_game.sh, click "Open as text" and you should see this
Delete the first line. The file should now look like this
Save it.
One final step. It looks like you are still having permission problems with /usr/bin/supertuxkart. Here's two commands you need to run to fix it.
Code: Select all
#!/bin/bash
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/share/supertuxkart/bin: /usr/share/supertuxkart/bin/supertuxkart

Code: Select all

I have made all the modification that you

Our son discovered this Gameboy emulator which claims Linux compatibility:
http://vba.ngemu.com/downloads.shtml
He found a .deb version somewhere and a mention of a Puppy boot disk but he'd like a PET or SFS
Is this possible?

i have vba 1.7.1 , there is no need to make a pet you can just download it extract it anywhere, there is no gui but all you have to do is drop the game on the executable. you will need the sdl test to config you gamepad or keys should be able to get it from that site.
if you want a pet or sfs i can make it just pm me.

OK, grabbed VisualBoyAdvance-1.7.1-SDL-linux-glibc22.tar.gz and SDLTest.Linux.zipscabz wrote:i have vba 1.7.1 , there is no need to make a pet you can just download it extract it anywhere, there is no gui but all you have to do is drop the game on the executable. you will need the sdl test to config you gamepad or keys should be able to get it from that site.

My son opened both, accepting the defaults (he did this in the default my-documents folder, if that makes any difference).
I tried to run SDLTest.Linux using Console and ./SDL-Test and got a permissions error.
Also, I ran pfind and discovered that he didn't have SDL loaded so I loaded SDL-1.2.9.pet, so I loaded that and rebooted.
No joy.
What am I missing, please?

The Emulator should only require SDL .edoc wrote:OK, grabbed VisualBoyAdvance-1.7.1-SDL-linux-glibc22.tar.gz and SDLTest.Linux.zipscabz wrote:i have vba 1.7.1 , there is no need to make a pet you can just download it extract it anywhere, there is no gui but all you have to do is drop the game on the executable. you will need the sdl test to config you gamepad or keys should be able to get it from that site.

yeah i dont know if it matters but this is where i have the folder located /root/"name of folder"/
I am using a newer sdl http://scabz.homelinux.com/Pets/SDL-1.2.13-i386.pet
here you can try this pet i just slapped together http://scabz.homelinux.com/Pets/VBA.pet
there is no gui so i didnt make a desktop file.
includes SDL-Test
Just ran your PET and it worked fine, except:
When I click on SDL-Test I only get a tiny window that is black and non-responsive - I have to Kill it to close it.
Also, the screen displays and I get the text but no sound.
WDYT?

to use the sdl test to config your keys open rxvt or what ever console you use hold Ctrl and left click on sdl test then LEFT AND RIGHT CLICK in rxvt window to paste then hit enter
after that when you press a button it will give you the code to put in the config file for the keys
oh yeah sorry i forgot to config it for keyboard it is configured for my game pad sorry you have to config it yourself
oh yeah for the sound fix it in the config file line 149 cuzz i have it turned of in that file so in can listen to music and play at the same time.

Works great in GuyDog (though I also had to edit run_game.sh). Just wanted to add that the configuration files are easily edited to adapt the game:
/root/.supertuxkart/config holds most of the configuration settings, including unlocked challenges (which offer new tracks and a new kart). If you're stuck on a challenge, look under "unlock-info" for the challenge and change "solved #f" to "solved #t" and you're on to the next challenge.
Other helpful files are in /supertuxkart-0.6-linuxi486/data/grandprix, where all the grand prix configurations are. You can make substitutions to the ".grandprix" files to change what tracks are included and how many laps, to design your own favorite grand prix.

Wow, this is a really old pet, and people are still interested in it? I really should look into updating all the old game stuff I used to upload.
Thanks for the feedback/cheat by the way cimarron.

I've actually found with a good graphics card and the drivers for it I've had pretty good success running everything and anything with Wine in Puppy. In fact I find now if it doesn't run in Puppy I can't be bothered to play it.
Admittedly they aren't very modern games, probably most modern would be Mass Effect 1 and Settlers 6, but they both run flawlessly.
