Nice! Cool Transparent menu looks good...hadn't tried that, but may have to give it a go.

Any fluxbox themes that you like, Trapster? Links?

Yes, "styles"...don't know how I could mix up that with the word "themes". Cool You should see me when I'm downloading themes versus gtk styles (each labelled accordingly)...which folder was that? crap, I saved it in the wrong one! etc. Wink

Thanks for the link and the feedback.

*Edit: oh, man! I think I just switched 'em again in my explanation..ugh! Wink

Ok, trapster, or whomever else, is there some trick to getting pwidgets to work on fluxbox? I installed .1 and restarted my x screen and no widgets.

I understand that .2 just came out...maybe I need to switch?

I've got the pinboard commented out on .xinitrc...does that matter? Confused

Steve, it's my favourite version of Puppy Smile
Do you - or anyone else - know how I can get it to run from RAM after it's installed on my hard drive?

Oh and how do we get the transparency effects on the menus?

Actually, I might be able to help with both...when Puppy is done via a frugal, rather than full, install, it runs essentially like a livecd, being loaded to ram. Puppy is different in that way.

At first I would install Puppy as I would usually do an install, using up the whole hard drive. But now I select frugal, then change the boot loader (usually grub) and point it to the installed file (usually explained during the frugal install by Puppy). So, even though my hard drive may be an ext2 or ext3 filesystem like the "normal" linux install, it has essentially a blank drive save for the frugal install. Hope that makes sense.

As far as transparencies, when you right click via the menu in this version, you'll the fluxbox menu option at the top, then configure than at the bottom of that is transparency. I've never used it, but I would probably start there if I was looking into transparencies.

Perhaps someone else can help us out with that aspect of it...

Oh, and glad you like the puplet. Cool

Likely not, unless pwidgets has been changed yet again - oddly for some wms (like 'box-styles) it was a bit conflicted since it would start up the bg from /root/Startup/show_widgets by running .. not sure as I'm not in Pup atm but it did cause some oddness with Blackbox and Afterstep, both of which work better without PuppyPin making waves or the ROX-background from being set. I used a trifling mod on that pwidgets script in /root/Startup .. basically you stop it from loading puppypin or doing a fix* as it did in an early version .. instead use pwidgets_exec (and again, I think you have to give the path maybe .. I guess at scripts sometimes 'til they work, lol...

Anyhow, that's how I got it to work in BB and Afterstep - it may have changed since then Wink .. and ymmv (I only use it to display a custom 'conkywidget' and the Processes one)

Looking forward to having a 'patch' installer if that can be done realistically since a few recent dl's are deathly slow on dialup (hahaha, P42b1 is still dribbling in after ... ... ...)

As I like some icons on my desktop, I do use the puppypin in .xinitrc. Below is what mine looks like as I cannot remember what was original or what else I've commented out.
I also use fbsetbg in /root/.fluxbox/startup.

I haven't played much with pwidgets but as you can see in the screenshot above, the clock does work Very Happy

/root/.xinitrc
Code:
#relocates right-side icons to actual right-side of screen...
/usr/sbin/fixPuppyPin /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin #v1.0.7

rox -p /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin

#if [ $PUPMODE -eq 5 ];then #v2.17
# setrox2backdrop /usr/share/backgrounds/welcome.png
# #...sets background image, written into /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin
#else
# #v2.17 i think need this on 2nd boot, to change welcome.png to default.jpg...
# if [ ! -f /root/Choices/ROX-background.jpg ];then
#  cp /usr/share/backgrounds/default.jpg /root/Choices/ROX-background.jpg
#  setrox2backdrop /usr/share/backgrounds/default.jpg
# fi
#fi
#added xli for puppy 4.10
#xli -fillscreen -onroot /root/.config/tmp/bg_img
##v1.0.5

/root/.fluxbox/startup
Code:

# You can set your favourite wallpaper here if you don't want
# to do it from your style.
#
#fbsetbg -f /usr/share/backgrounds/Reflection.jpg
background=`cat /root/.config/wallpaper/bg_img`
fbsetbg -f $background
#xli added for Puppy 4.10
#xli -fillscreen -onroot /root/.config/tmp/bg_img
#
# This sets a black background

#/usr/bin/fbsetroot -solid black

This is using puppy410

Thanks, trapster! Ok, I can uncomment that line (which is the only thing different) but I don't want all the icons (or any, really, hence my reason for fluxbox) so how do I have pwidgets without the icons?

Oh, and I discovered this little trick for keeping the background that you finished with last. I had issues with the startup setting, so I looked around. I use fbsetbg in the menu to set the background in this version, so that is what I used for this trick.

All you have to do is edit the file /root/.fluxbox/init
Code:

geany /root/.fluxbox/init

Find the line that has rootCommand in it (it was blank when I first found it and add fbsetbg -l (that's "l" as in "last wallpaper set)" so it looks like this:
Code:

session.screen0.rootCommand:   fbsetbg -l

Which seems to have the same effect as editing the startup like you said, trapster, but it seemed to be easier for me.

Doesn't answer my pwidgets issue, though...

redandwhitestripes: I mentioned earlier about transparency, but I wanted to add a follow up.

It should be noted that many of the fluxbox themes that have been pointed out by myself and trapster (thanks!) on various sites are clear/transparent. So, if you pick a menu/fluxbox style that is glass or transparent or something like that than it may take care of what you are looking for.

Steve,

I wasn't sure where to post this, but what the heck is that?

Thanks, and sorry to be a bother.

At the bottom right? It should be the volume control dial...if you sorta drag your mouse over it, it will turn up or down. Try it while listening to a movie or mp3 or something..is that what you are talking about?

Yes, that is exactly what I'm talking about. If it doesn't work on my old box, I'll let you know.

Thanks,

Oh, I thought this looked pretty cool..I found the fluxbox style, the gtk2 theme and the wallpaper. I zipped it up with a readme to explain where to put everything and even gave instructions on installing ttuuxxx's Seamonkey theme if you wanted that too (like in the screenshots). Tell me if you like it... Cool
