but I rather enjoy just going in and changing it
don't get me wrong, i also like the idea of editing just a line in a menu-file to have an entry just like i want the entry.

Steve,

if you don't know never mind. If you are interested see at xdelta.org or: http://puppylinux.org/wikka/XdeltA, or a puppy search.

OK so by going to the x terminal (press ctrl + alt + backspace)
and typing xwin jwm you have a standard Puppy 4.1.2
(not the same as the evolving Deep Thought which is 4.2 - for those wondering)

and by going to the x terminal (press ctrl + alt + backspace)
and typing xwin fluxbox you reenter fluxbox?

Then add some Puppy bloat (major packages such as OpenOffice) to make a flux capcitator in your own time . . . :)
http://tmxxine.com/wik/wikka.php?wakka=DingoAddons
yep, pretty much. 8) My intention was not really to make another stripped down version of Puppy, but rather set up the fluxbox wm so that anyone that wanted to try it out didn't have to do it themselves if they didn't want to...still, at 97mb, it's pretty small in the OS world...

vg1: I will be checking that out tomorrow..perhaps that will go well with pupfluxlite.

PupFluxLite

Ok, all you Puppian Purists, listen up! :D

After several starts and stops on the old PII Thinkpad 600 laptop I remastered a version of PupFlux to 85mb.

It's amazing how efficient you get at it after doing it three or so times. 8)

This uses the same version of Fluxbox. It starts with Puppy 4.0 which I stripped down somewhat (it doesn't have gnumeric, abiword, or a few other items).

It was important to me to still be a complete version with a browser, a pic viewer, CUPS and a media watcher and most of the other stuff that the amazing Puppy has in it.

I'm using it right now via livecd on one of the home pc's. It found the printer and uploaded stuff to the internet via wireless, so it looks to be cooking along, very quick, looks good, etc.

Anyway, here is the link, but it is the same way that I did last time with that file sharing thing, so if anyone would be kind enough to mirror it it would be appreciated.

If, however, no one else wants it, then mirroring it won't be necessary.

Hi steve_s,

I mirrored your iso here

http://puppylinux.asia/members/steve_s/ ... uxlite.iso

Take a look at the md5.txt to be sure it's the correct size.

Best,
Eric

Thanks, Caneri, very appreciated! I don't know how to check the size of the md5, but I do know the iso should be around 83-84 mb. I'll download it from there today and give it a run.

Thanks for the mirror! 8)

Hi steve_s,

To make an md5sum from the original iso use this command in the directory the iso resides.

md5sum pupfluxlite.iso > pupfluxlite.iso.md5.txt

then look at the one I made on .ca (I didn't have an original to check it against).

Here's the result from my copying the iso to .ca

e7c40c2c07653adc31de8a97bb078e12 pupfluxlite.iso

To check the md5sum locally you can use this

md5sum -c pupfluxlite.iso.md5.txt

Hello Eric

I downloaded from the link that steve_s provided at sendspace.com
and i get the same md5sum that you get.

Code: Select all

# md5sum pupfluxlite.iso
e7c40c2c07653adc31de8a97bb078e12 pupfluxlite.iso
#
So i suspect that is the correct one.

Thanks, Canari and thanks CatDude for the check up. We'll call it correct unless I check it and it looks totally wrong. Thanks again.

vg1: Xdelta looks pretty cool! and simple enough to do.

So, would it be more logical to do an Xdelta patch for PupFlux or PupFluxlite?

Steve - well, both really. Are you concerned with size?
I suppose the xdelta for PupFlux should be small because you didn't add much to the basic p412. That's the one I would prefer.

For PupFluxLite you even removed stuff. I have not tried to see how this impacts on the size of the delta, but it should still be small.

Thanks

vg1: ok, I'll play with 'em...looks pretty simple.

HOWEVER, the link for the xdelta.pet gives back a server error message. Is this a temp thing or is there something wrong with that link? Alterantive link available?

* Edit: found it here.

Ok, I have not tried this, but per vg1's suggestion, I have made xdelta patches for both pupflux and for pupfluxlite and am going to try and attach them (hopefully it works).

Essentially, applying a patch will save you on download time if you already have the base iso file downloaded.

The base file for PupFlux is Puppy 4.1.2. If you already have pup412 downloaded, you could apply the patch/xdelta for pupflux and it would then create PupFlux for you.

The base file for PupFluxLite is Puppy 4.0. If you already have pup4 downloaded, you could apply the patch/xdelta for pupfluxlite and it would then create PupFluxLite for you.

Great, thorough, brief instructions for xdelta are found here. If that download location doesn't work for xdelta.pet and you want to download it, look at my previous post for an alternative link.

Ok, now let's see if we can attach these.

Yeah, couldn't get it to add them, even though I zipped 'em up. Each is about 8mb. Ideas?

*Edit: ok, if we can figure out how to post 'em, I've got the xdelta's for both of these. Until then, enjoy pupflux and pupfluxlite iso's... 8)

This Newbie likes the look

Thanks for creating a "darker" look. I'm a Newbie and can't do my own yet. This OS seems more serious now.

Thanks again,

Dave

My pleasure 8) there are other "puplet's" out there, some with darker looks as you say, but not many with fluxbox. Glad you like it.

Nice! 8) Transparent menu looks good...hadn't tried that, but may have to give it a go.

Any fluxbox themes that you like, Trapster? Links?

Yes, "styles"...don't know how I could mix up that with the word "themes". 8) You should see me when I'm downloading themes versus gtk styles (each labelled accordingly)...which folder was that? crap, I saved it in the wrong one! etc.

Thanks for the link and the feedback.

*Edit: oh, man! I think I just switched 'em again in my explanation..ugh!

Ok, trapster, or whomever else, is there some trick to getting pwidgets to work on fluxbox? I installed .1 and restarted my x screen and no widgets.

I understand that .2 just came out...maybe I need to switch?

I've got the pinboard commented out on .xinitrc...does that matter? :?
