After using Puppy when it looks like Windows, when it looks like itself with JWM and modifying it a few different ways, its good to be able to modify it in a way that is much more linux-like.

The Fluxbox window manager has a very clean, minimalist feel: no icons (traditionallly), a small task bar and everything controlled either via terminal or via the extensive right click menu. Fluxbox, at least to me, has always presented in somewhat of a picture frame format: it is all about the wallpaper and the menu.

I set this one up with a menu that is predominately Puppy but has modifications that I felt worked better with Fluxbox (for example, some of the jwm settings hence programs don't jive well with Fluxbox).

The menu is traditional fluxbox in a few ways, primarily in that it requires a modification of the menu file to change the menu. But that is all it requires.

So, if you want to modify something about the menu, simply:

Oh, I wanted to also mention that some great eyecandy stuff for fluxbox can be found at http://www.box-look.org in case anyone wanted to add more themes and didn't know about this website.

You can simply click on the fluxbox themes, browse, find the one you want, then install it to /root/.fluxbox/styles/ and you've got your new themes. I really had to struggle not to add a lot of themes I like, thus keeping the size of the puplet down.

**Edit: by the way, the usual Puppy Gtk theme chooser works just fine in this puplet. So, even with the minimalist wm like fluxbox, you can use box-look for your fluxbox theme and then you can use this thread and links like this for your gtk themes and just go crazy with the eyecandy if you want.

there are also xdg-menu-packages around you maybe want to try.

how about making an xdelta available. I wish more people would use it, especially for puplets with minor tweaks, like this one.

This puplet does have the means of configuring fluxbox other than manually adjusting the menu file. I've included a screenshot. Top of the menu, fluxconf...

So, technically you don't have to adjust the fluxbox menu "by hand." I've just found it easier whenever I do it to just edit the menu file. Oh, well. At least it has options.
