This might be a relatively small tool for people who are used to WinZip.

I personally prefer a filemanager with integrated archive-support like XFE.
But XFE is much larger.

Midnight Commander all the way. Best there is.

But I will check this out. GuiTAR gives problems quite frequently so it might be worth it to replace it.

See the News:
http://www.puppylinux.com/news.htm

XArchive will be in Pup 1.0.7.
So to will Busybox 1.01, which has more archive utilities, such as "rpm", that XArchive will make use of.
So, apart from the usual gzip, bzip and zip, we will be able to handle .deb and .rpm files.

have you tried it with deb?
I opened one (don't remember which), and xarchive just showed one textfile.

if my unrpm / undeb programs are installed, they are not the standard package management programs and won't work properly with xarchive

i guess my programs could be renamed, maybe something like unrpm2 and undeb2, if anyone still wants to use them

I still use them, and Dotpup-Wizard uses unrpm.

As I want to rewrite it anyway (also add support for undeb), it might be ok to rename them to "2".
I had no look yet on the new busybox, and how its programs work.

well, the point is my undeb and unrpm programs are not the same as the programs with the same name that are part of the rpm and deb package managers, so there might be a problem if the real programs are installed, or if busybox has equivalent programs

my programs are just simple unzip program ... i probably should have named them something else (i don't think i realized there was already a program called unrpm ... i had never used it)

Well, the News for 16-Nov has the list of new Busybox applets.

For .rpm support, there is:
rpm*, rpm2cpio*, cpio*

For .deb support there is:
dpkg, dpkg-deb*

Those marked with an asterisk are used by XArchive.

XArchive uses external bash wrapper scripts to access them, in my Unleashed
package they are located in /usr/local/lib/xarchive/wrappers/

The problem is, a couple of extra options are used, not supported by Busybox:
dpkg-deb: --fsys-tarfile
cpio: --no-absolute-filenames

So, the scripts will have to be modified to not use these.

I'll upload a 1.0.7test iso about mid-week.

ok, if there are no naming-conflicts, then G2 should not rename his files I think.
This will assure backward-compatibility.
