Hacking Windows Administrator Password
(with good intentions) Using Linux

I want to test this on my own machine first....
so how could I simply run it after booting Puppy,
and after mounting the Windows partition drive?

Remembering that some laptops have one hidden partition
and 2 NTFS partitions, others have been reformatted completely
and have only one drive letter etc....
as well as newer Puppies....to do with the kernel???
read the drives with different letters.

This would be lightning quick with Puppy

If this was so simple to do....it would be great to have this as a script
in the Puppy utilities menu....with a big warning that it may fail
and USE at your own risk.

Very handy with Windows so that I wouldn't have to boot anything else.

Recent example below.

////////////////

I have plenty of other boot cds but I had a Dell craptop
to fix the other day.
Puppy 4.11 booted....others non Puppy rescue cds hung.

This is one that I found recently...on Whirlpool Forums?
PC Login Now (or PCLoginNow).
It hung although I have used it before on different machines.

I have been told to not delete an account with this boot cd...
because it is gone forever.
So just set up another account in Windows and then play with it.

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/07/0 ... -password/

""""""""""""""""

Even after I got them booting....see below...
PC Login Now, Opthcrack..3 different versions etc...
wouldn't finish.
I forgot what else I tested.

Dell......a wonderful product indeed????????????????
No Cheapskate hardware with Dell....or am I Dellusional.

( To boot I shutdown and turned off the mains power.
I took out the battery.
I then pressed the power button on the laptop
to discharge it completely.
Better booting....but on some cds I still had to
hit F12 and then pick....boot from cd.
It was not an issue of burning.
Same brand cds....same burner...same program Burnn CCCD
and the same speed ..........x 32. )

The above may help someone later, if Puppy won't boot..

"""""""""""""""""""""""

So back to topic...what command can I run after booting....THANKS.

The first thing you have to do is of course load your Ubuntu Live CD. You don’t have to install it, just boot straight into the desktop. Then, install a program called ‘chntpw’:

$ sudo apt-get install chntpw

" After successfully installing ‘chntpw’, you have to access the Windows NTFS partition by mounting it and allowing read/write support. A good tutorial on how to do this can be found HERE.

After that, use your command line skills by navigating to ‘WINDOWS/system32/config’.

Once inside the ‘config’ directory, issue this command:

$ sudo chntpw SAM

A long display of information will follow. Just ignore them.

Once you are prompted to reset the password, it is recommended to leave the password blank with an asterisk *. Reboot, and you can now login to freakin’ Windows. "

Thanks for all the above replies.

I am aware of all those cds and or programs..

But what I really want is a command that could work in Puppy
similar to Ubuntu.

:::::::::::::::::::::

$ sudo apt-get install chntpw

:::::::::::::::::

If I understand correctly....the sudo command...
will not work with Puppy.....correct????

Well it took 3 packages to compile but here ya go, Just install it and run chntpw via command line
ttuuxxx

Ps included is 2 versions a static and regular, Haven't tried the static on its own, it might work without installing the package and if so, that would reduce the size of the package by a lot.
hmmm I'll try it later on

Many thanks I shall test this later today.

I'll add a new user to XP and password it.

Now if you could get Team Viewer going????????????
Just joking mate.

http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx

A fantastic program...under 2 megs...don't install
but hit run...very handy for people in the country
to remote their machine and maybe help them out.

I know there are plenty of others, but no site rego...
software rego needed for it.
Free for home users.

I have already converted 1 PcAnywhere user straight away.

Anyway again thanks.
I have a couple of cases...17 inch monitors etc...
if you want some ttuuxxx....I am in Sydney.

PM me if you want anything and I'll give you my phone number.

yes thats it
more detailed instructions are located at
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd ... rough.html
but in the past I didn't need the extra instructions, it was easily followed via the script itself.

For getting around the "inconvenience" of xp security I would recommend using the ophcrack livecd which is based on slackware I believe.

Puppy would make an excellent base distro for this instead of slackware as it runs on a lot more systems (lower RAM requirement, better hardware detection etc).

The ophcrack livecd can be found at

http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/

Ive started a thread requesting a version of puppy with ophcrack here

Hey Guys, I'm using Slacko Puppy and I can't find chntpw in Package Manager. I tried to search in every repository, updated the database too. What am I doing wrong?

Can someone attach the chntpw pet?
