If Perl was installed through PPM, remove it with any and all associated pkgs in favor of this 139mb devx.

Hi...

Thank you! I will try this on a new install, though, I've already put a lot into the current one and am not really enthused about potentially messing it up just for one game. :)

Regards...

Hi Semme...

The link is broken, is there another one by any chance?

Frozen Bubbles game only works in some Puppies

#22 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hi All,
It is now December 20, 2015.
I'm running Tahrpup 602 with rcrsn51 driver updates and service pack 603 provided by Puppy Package Manager.
I downloaded Frozen Bubbles through PPM.
Perl was auto downloaded through PPM.
Frozen Bubbles is installed but not responding.
Has there been any changes that would make Frozen Bubbles work in Tahrpup 602 PAE since this thread began?
Thank you in advance for any good news. :)

Yes, success with Precise 571 PAE using your devx suggestion.
I'm still working on Tahrpup 602 PAE. (not working yet).

Thank you

Frozen Bubbles game only works in some Puppies

#26 Post by Sky Aisling »

Puppy Package Manager downloads acres of Perl data automatically when frozen-bubble is requested through PPM on Tahrpup.

Starting from scratch...I've uninstalled all the Perl data and frozen-bubble module.
Shall I go ahead and download frozen-bubble again and all the Perl data then uninstall the Perl data leaving only frozen-bubble_2.212 module?
Then place frozen-bubble module next to tahrpup sfs and devx sfs on the live USB stick?

Does it make any difference what the medium is?
Precise is running from Live CD with save on a HDD (Precise is on different machine than Tahrpup).
Tahrpup is running from USB flash drive only, no HDD on machine.
Devx sfs is loaded next to tahrpup save and tahrpup sfs on USB flash drive.

I tried copying Frozen-Bubble-2.2.0 directory from the successful Precise install to a flash drive then transferred it to /mnt/home on Tahrpup. No go.
fires up here .... try running it from a terminal
Code:
frozen-bubble
Console report on 'frozen-bubble' continues to give 'command not found'.
(I've tried various ways of saying 'frozen bubble'.)

Thank you, 666philb.

Frozen Bubbles game only works in some Puppies

#29 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hi 666phil,

I think the simple solution here is to make a usb flash drive with Precise 571 Pae and pop that Puppy in the machine when the Frozen Bubble urge bubbles up.

:D

What do you think?

Frozen Bubbles game only works in some Puppies

#31 Post by Sky Aisling »

Yes! Frozen Bubble now works on Tahrpup 602 PAE with driver updates and 603 service pack.

Now, anyone walking by my house late at night will notice a flickering light on in the living room.
They'll see a 75 year old kid hunched over a battered old keyboard transfixed with little colored balls ricocheting off the walls.

Thank you, 666Philb!

I see on the ibiblio list that there is a Tahrpup 605?

Bubbles v 1.02a, by ulis

#32 Post by kjdixo »

I have had this working for a week or so.
Bubbles v 1.02a, by ulis
in my quirky puppy tahr 6.05
I booted to an old puppy 3.01 disc that I made on 27.07.2008.
I searched the booted 3.01 file system for filenames containing 'bubbles' as a kind of first attempt at moving it over to my newer 2016 quirky distro.
I found bubbles.tcl and looked at the code for clues.
From that I deduced that I would require tcl and tk installed in quirky, which I did.
tcl_8.6 and tk_8.6 (also wish is installed).
As an extra I put the orange bubble icon bubbles.tcl.xpm in usr/share/icons for my desktop shortcut. Then copied bubbles.tcl from 3.01 to quirky.
To my surprise and delight, it worked.

I also copied from 3.01
/root/.Bubbles1.Parameters
which contains the configuration settings
set ::Level novice
set ::Size 40
set ::Speed 1

note
I placed bubbles.tcl in the folder /usr/bin/ though it works in other locations.

I set file permissions as required (I usually set them to the minimum for it to work)

Frozen Bubbles game only works in some Puppies

#34 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hi 666philb,

I need a little help with the installation of Frozen-Bubble on an HP HDX 18 64bit PAE machine.
I'm running Tahrpup 6.05 from Live CD.
I've had no trouble installing Frozen via Tahrpup to other machines using your directions.

However, the message from this machine says failure is due to 'wrong ELF64 class'.
See screenshots for source of download, error message and machine cpu-info.

Is there a simple fix for this issue?

Thank you for any assistance.

PS - Thanks kjdixo for the success story with 'bubbles'.

EDIT: Issue Solved

The machine is 64 bit PAE
I downloaded tahr.6.0.5_PAE.iso (how to tell if 64 or 32 bit version?)
Because the machine is 64 bit I downloaded devx-tahr64_6.0.5.sfs
The correct devx to run Frozen-Bubble is devx_tahr_6.0.5.sfs
