I found that MSWord97 will easily work in Wine 1.1.7 without formal installation. If you have it installed elsewhere, simply copy the directory c:/Program Files/Office, drop it into /.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Office. To get spell and thesaurus working, find the Windows directory Common Files that has the directories Proof and TextConv and copy those to /.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared.

Macros won’t work, and a weird Help (copy WDMAIN8.HLP to root and Word97 will stop searching for it, but only the Index works)

To get it working in Wine, start Wine and go to Libraries/new overides, add: ole32, oleaut32, olepro32, and rcpt4

I deleted add-ons and pared elsewhere in the Office directory and got the total size down to 37mbs. Spell/Thesaurus/Converters make up half the size.

CPU usage is very moderate.
