I'm new to downloading .pets.

Will the site addresses be the same as shown in your first dialogue box?
For example:
http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/ttuuxxx/progra ... 3-i386.pet

Or will you have to post us a new address list?

Love Tuxtypes...

Sky
it will and has to be a new address since puppylinux.ca domain name/server went unter but it will still have the /ttuuxxx/programs/SDL-Programs prefix.

Hello Ttuuxxx,

What more do I need to do to make Tuxtype activate?

I've downloaded and installed the 4 SDL libs.
I've downloaded and installed tuxtype game only.
The game icon shows in the menu under *fun*.
When I attempt to execute the program the screen flickers for a moment but nothing more happens.

Is there more to the setup to make the game activate?

Here is the configuration of the hosting machine:
Toshiba Satellite 1415-S115 - RAM=512MB - Processor=Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz
More specs found at: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/Toshiba ... 01078.html
Running Lupu 520 as a full install with no other OS resident.

I just tried it on Spup and works perfectly, just the 4 sdl pets plus the tuxtype pet is all I used. I would uninstall sdl pets and use the ubuntu repo which should have tuxtype in the puppy package manager, or try downloading them again. sdl doesn't change all that much

I'm inexperienced in doing sdl pets. What program do I use to *uninstall*? never mind! I found how to do it in Package Manager.
What is the Ubuntu repo? Where do I find it?
Yes, I'll try downloading again, although all seem ok when I did download.

I think that the puppy package manager is conected to the Ubuntu repo but if not then just go to http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/tuxtype and download all the sdl and tux type packages only. looks like 7 packages total

Download of TuxType for Lucid Puppy

#37 Post by Sky Aisling »

ttuuxxx,
Is this the right page? http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/lucid/tuxtype

I'm unsure of what to download. There are so many files.
If this is the right page, then which specific files do I download?

I'm assuming that MD5 checksum is used to check the files once they are downloaded?
Or, is MD5 checksum only for Ubuntu files?
Is there a different checksum procedure for Puppy files?

Thanks in advance for your timely response.

we are lazy when it comes to md5sum's usually we use that just for iso's since they are over 100MB+

Well I downloaded 17 ubuntu packages and made it into one pet for you, It even works on spup. So if it doesn't work on your machine it must be something else wrong with you files, anyways give it a try.

Hi ttuuxxx
thanks for the tux suite.
Tried in in XOpup and works only after you

Code: Select all

ln -sf /usr/lib/libpng12.so /usr/lib/libpng.so.3
I'm assuming this is the issue with Puppy 5.x too

Also supertux.desktop has "Categories=BuildingBlock" :o instead of Game so it does not show on the menu.

Latter: Where is the supertux source that you used? Looks like that is not properly recognizing the XO-1 keyboard because of the olpc-kbdshim daemon. So I want to take a look in case I can figure something out (or you could use your XO... )

Yes, I just completed a pretty good test of each of the components. All sections came up exceptionally fast. Nothing has hung up. The sound is loud and clear. It's working slick as a whistle!

This version differs slightly from the version packaged with XUbuntu 10.04 OS which is where I encountered it. But, either version is a superb teaching tool for both kids and adults.

I also would like to thank you ttuuxxx for the file that makes tuxtype work at once! My kids can use it now in Puppy Linux.

Tuxpaint couldnt get it work in 5.2.5, installed the sdl files, then tuxpaint.
It flashes with a black screen shortly then quits.

Hopefully there will be a one file install soon too! :D

TuxType typing & TuxMath & TuxPaint+Stamps +SuperTux&Sound

#45 Post by Sky Aisling »

ttuuxxx,
Good Sunday Evening,

I use Tux Typing in Puppy-528 without issue.
I find this program most helpful to people learning to type and learn English.
However,
Tux Typing doesn't want to activate in Puppy-431 which I use alot in older machines.

The audio files work.

Here is a screenshot of Pfind of "Tux".
(I cropped out the page full of .png references)

Here is screenshot of *dmesg* taken after no activation of TT.

Here is screenshot of /usr/games.

Here is the machine and OS:
Machine:
Toshiba Satellite P10-s429 (with old bios)
512 RAM, screen resolution 1280x800
OS:
Puppy-Linux 431 frugally installed on HDD
Seamonkey 2.16.2 loaded as an .sfs on HDD

Do you see anything missing?
Thank you!

I didn't do much testing, but it seems to run with dingo's SDL.pet. You could try uninstalling your previous SDL pets, & instead test with this one.

Hi :)

The Puppy is Precise Puppy 5.7.1. with full install on HDD.

Tuxpaint is not activating.
Have I missed a dependency?

Here is screenshot of the files I downloaded via Puppy Package Manager and screenshots of pfind search. Pfind search screenshot is in two pieces.
Note: Tuxtyping is setup and running perfectly on same configuration.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
