plea for return of earlier version of pmount |
|
Hi Everyone
Does anyone else find the most recent version of pmount to be in one respect a backward step -[ what an awesome programme pmount is by the way - why can't the mega mainline distros make it so simple to mount/unmount partitions?] - in versions up to puppy400 all partitions [floppy, hd, cd/dvd and usb] appear in a single list so it's easy to just scan down and make sure all are unmounted when closing down - or only the right ones mounted for some new task - but when the different types of partition have their own tabs only one of these can be checked at a time so it's not so simple to do at a glance - maybe there is a reason for preferring tabs but the simplicity of a single list seems to me such a big plus it's sad to lose it - maybe I'll just have to stick with NOP400 which is great by the way - now I've added ooffice3 and thunderbird it seems closer to perfect than I have any right to expect.
best wishes and many thanks to NOP team, John

johnmd,
someone else asked about this, and Barry responded that the all-in-one display is still an option with the current pmount. However not being on a puppy computer at the moment, I can't recall how you toggle this option, or whether pmount has any preferences option.

Pmount and Mutt are still there; just click mount icon. Mutt was usually
a little more reliable than Pmount in listing everything.
The desktop drive icons in the latest Pups are much faster and
more convenient than using Pmount.

Hi there
Thanks for all your comments:
muggins - I hadn't thought of that - that the two 'looks' for pmount might just be alternatives that could be toggled - I must check it out
rjbrewer - hadn't thougth of the desktop drive icons as alternatives to pmount - I just like my desktop tidy [for me that means pretty empty] so I'd just removed them - I'd better rethink that
zigbert - pdrive is completely new to me - I must follow up yur link - good to know about it
Best wishes, John

to fix your problem.
1 open pmount
2 go into preferences
3 tick box for single window.

Know what you mean about the clean look;
at first I found the icons annoying and intrusive,
now I can't live without them.

One other thing;
If you just have one drive icon on desktop (say sdax, with mounted
in yellow); you can right click it, left click "show location," and all
the other drives will show in window. Much more tidy.

Thanks J-Bob
I should have looked under the hood first, shouldn't I - so easy when you know it's there.
also thanks to rjbrewer
your idea of having one drive icon and right clicking to show others is new to me - must try it out
Best wishes, John
