Working in BoxPup 4.1.3.
I can play the ogg file OK [quality and volume is good], but when I click on the URL to the mp3, all Firefox 3.5.4 windows close. :(

These sound files are a good way to pass on info; lots passed on with minimal effort.

Would it be possible to use Audacity to record directly from your soundcard using AlsaMixer?

I haven't tried this myself, but there is a guide on their Wiki:

Audacity needs some special settings to run.
It took a while to get it working on the 3 series of Puppy
As far as I know Audacity does not run on Puppy 4.3.1

OK, how about using the line out connection from the device to go into a recording device eg mp3 player, stereo etc

Here's a guide using a command line method to record audio using AlsaMixer and LAME.

I appreciate the sentiment but want to use the software - not get it working.
Many thanks though :)

Why do you say that Lobster? As far as I know Audacity does work on 4.3.1. Been using to mess around with the AutoTalent plugin, basically AutoTune. Quite fun actually.

Why do you say that Lobster?
Because it is true for me. :)

I am beginning to suspect that I need a version of Puppy compiled
for 64 bit with 64 bit programs.
Such compiles are beginning to emerge . . .

In theory 32 bit Puppy should work on a 64 bit computer.
Largely it does. Not always.
