Kernel patched with lck - for testers

I was puzzled by the fact that vector can make kde run so fast, but even though puppy has every thing in the memory i takes some time to load apps. I found out that vector uses the ck patch (con kolivas) for its 2.6 kernel. so i patched puppys 2.4.29 with the lck patch (earlier known as ck for 2.4) + other required patches based on instruction from Barryk and Staffan on the how to section.

KDE apps are now taking lesser time to load and more responsive

donwload kernel.zip from
http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?c ... kernel.zip

unzip it ( contains vmlinuz and image.gz)

backup your old vmlinuz and image.gz replace them by the new ones
use ramdisk_size=14000 parameter at boot up.

As an after thought the code name for this kernel is Boosted Puppy

Ok, just installed it.
I applied the small patch, I also use for the XP-installer, to force puppy to boot from C:\

Impression:
"normal" applications run as fast or "slow" as before.
Konqueror might be a little bit faster, not shure.
KDE-applications are very fast already on my machine.

I have a Celereron 2,2 Gigahertz with 768 MB RAM (- 64 MB shared memory).
Maybe on slower computers you will feel a higher speedup.

Konqueror needs approx. 3-4 seconds to start first time (without having any KDE-stuff loaded yet).
New windows take 1 second.

**edit** I have the impression, that the XServer runs faster now.
X.org with shadows acts as fast as without shadows.
I will test it with 2 monitors now, they are slower with shadows.
**edit2** Yes, seems to be smoother now

Puppy now works "perect" for me.
2 Monitors, Eye-Candy like shadows, fast Webbrowsersfull of features, and Starwriter starting in 14 seconds.

To be ready for puppy 1.0.8, can you kindly recompile the kernel with a default
ramdisk size of 13824K, instead of the current 12288K. There should not be any
problem with it working on 1.0.7 and earlier also.
