Just a note that the download link for the ATI Driver package on Page 1 seems to be broken.

Ati-Catalyst-8.12-xorg7.4-k2.6.27.5.pet

The [Download] link points to:
Code:
http://puppy@linux/isos/2008-07-to-12/Puppy-4-K2.6.27.5/iso-01/Addons-by-MU-02/addons-2/Ati-Catalyst-8.12-xorg7.4-k2.6.27.5.pet

But it should be:
Code:
http://puppy:linux@puppyisos.org/isos/2008-07-to-12/Puppy-4-K2.6.27.5/iso-01/Addons-by-MU-02/addons-2/Ati-Catalyst-8.12-xorg7.4-k2.6.27.5.pet

Also after installing the above .pet and rebooting the computer the ati drivers are not active, I needed to go to the console and run:
Code:
aticonfig --initial

To update the xorg.conf

One more question, I'm using a frugal install with the puppy files in a /puppy sub-directory on an ext3 partition, how can I tell BootManager to load .sfs files from this sub-directory rather than the / directory?

Mark,

Thank you for that great New Years Pup. It's amazing what you and WOW have accomplished.

A few problems that I've been unable to resolve that I hope you will address in your next release.

1. No sound. Alsa sound doesn't work. When you exit and use alsaconf, it configures the sound and you hear "woof woof", but still no audio when you return. None of the audio programs will play an audio CD. Installed gxine which has worked well in other distributions, but it will not execute.
2. No xsane or comparable program and when installed, it will not execute. Trying to get my scan feature on an HP C5290 all-in-one to work.

Thanks,
Jim

xsane:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=265835

Requires "sane-backends" from petget.
In my Puppy, they do not install, so I donwnloaded:
ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-4/sane-backends-1.0.19.pet
Extracted it, and copied the files by hand.
This works easy with Muppyfiler.
I'll include xsane in the next newyearspup, that I just put together.

Concening, I have no idea, it works here Embarassed

I think this was requested somewhere in this long thread:
to show 2 cpus in conky, I had to modify /etc/conky.conf

${if_existing /proc/acpi/processor/CPU1/info}CPU 2: ${cpu cpu2}%
${color lightgray}${cpubar cpu2 7,168}$color
$endif ${if_existing /proc/acpi/processor/P002/info}CPU 2: ${cpu cpu2}%
${color lightgray}${cpubar cpu2 7,168}$color
$endif

The bold code is new.
I do not have /proc/acpi/processor/CPU1, but /proc/acpi/processor/P002/

Athlon 5050e (dual core 2.6 ghz).

How about this?
Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep -c "cpu cores"

And use an script to generate another conky's config file.

Mark,

Thank you for including Xsane in your latest New Years pup. It works great now that I've installed the proper printer driver.

Still have a problem with the sound.
Thank you and Wow for the fine work that you've done on this "ultra pup".
Jim

EDIT: Sound now works. Very Happy Alsaconf installs the sound driver at the X prompt, however, the ALSA sound wizard does not work.

PostPosted: Fri 30 Jan 2009, 10:22    Post subject: How to compile wine with opengl in unnamed?

Hi, and thanks for this fantastic puppy derivative. I'm having really fun with it and it works very well on my system, thanks to the smp support.
I'm running it under vmware player, with windows xp as host.

I'm trying to compile wine 1.1.13, but I need opengl support for a software that I'm using.
I installed Mesa-7.2.sfs, but still I get this message from wine configure.
Code:

configure: WARNING: OpenGL development headers not found.
OpenGL and Direct3D won't be supported.

Everything else it's fine and I can anyway compile wine without opengl support.

Any idea?

Libero

type this:
ln -s /usr/X11R7/lib/include/GL /usr/include/

If you also have the Nvidia or Ati drivers, you might have to move first the 4 to 6 files from /usr/include/GL to /usr/X11R7/lib/include/GL, and then delete the empty folder /usr/include/GL.

True transparency in URxvt (xcompmgr, compiz, xfwm4 compositor, beryl, cairocompmgr)

Add/edit these lines in your /root/.Xdefaults file:

URxvt.foreground: white
URxvt.transparent: True
URxvt.shading: 40

!warning, needs about 500 bytes per line for scrollback buffer...
URxvt.saveLines: 500

I actually tried the new Ati catalyst driver 9.1.
It compiled, but the fglrx kernelmodule would not load.
dmesg and googe told be, that this is, because in the kernels .config this must be set:
Code:
#
# Bus options (PCI etc.)
#
CONFIG_PCI_MSI=y

Unfortunately, this seems to make it incompatible with wows kernel.
I had to replace the modules in intrd.gz with the recompiled ones.
There are several complains about this in the phoronix forum, so I hope, they will release a version without this option.
I have not yet decided, which kernel I'll use for newyearspup final tomorrow.
If I succeed to compile a patched wine that supports pixelshaders with that catalyst driver, I would use the new kernel.
If not, this had to wait for newyearspup03 in 3 months.

I would not like, to break compatibility with wows kernel... Confused
Wine anyway seems not to compile with the typedefs I had to add.
Mark

SOLVED: [read more] reported by MU and confirmed by me:xorgwizard resulted in a black screen when I chose "xorg" So, don't load these SFS files with Bootmanager, please only copy the files you need from them (double click on a .sfs file browse and copy drivers to the filesystem) I'll convert these sfs to .pet soon to avoid this problem.

Hey Wow,

First up, this is one awesome puplet! Next, my problem: I can't seem to mount the SFSs to take out the files in them. When I click on them I get this error: Failed mounting or unmounting.

Any ideas?
