Very Happy Hello,
Here is a tarball of Opera_10 + libaudio+libflashplayer..
Unpack, open a terminal in that directory, and type
./install.sh
Tested on Puppy 4.1.1
Unstable version, user beware!!LOL
Seem to work OK
Im using it to post this...
If Flash dont work, copy
.usr.lib/opera/libflashplayer.so to usr/libs...
Enjoy...

I tweaked it a bit and packaged it as an SFS. Tested in Puppy 4.1.1. Place in /mnt/home and reboot. If this is useful, I plan to add aMSN and Transmission BitTorrent to this package. [Edit 12-20-08: I decided not to add to this Opera Alpha SFS.]

Oh, if you like skins for Opera there is a cool new 'dragon_blues-08' via Tools | Appearance | Find more skins.

Did as instructed in 4.1.1 3 sfs files in the right pane Opera 9.62 previously installed. Where and how do I find 10?

Hi Artie,
There's bug in Puppy 4.1.1 where only two SFS files merged, said to be fixed in 4.1.2. I'm assuming that you do have 'opera-10.00.sfs' showing on the right panel of BootManager. Maybe I could or should make a .pet of this?

Apart from upgrading to 4.1.2, an advanced workaround in 4.1.1 is outlined here that is reported to allow up to 20 SFS. I can't confirm.

If it has merged then you'll have a folder '/usr/lib/opera/10.00'. Also you'll have an opera link in /usr/local/bin and opera.desktop in /usr/share/applications. Run 'opera' in a terminal if above are present yet opera doesn't run and post any errors, please.

Here's a pet, tested in Puppy 4.1.1:

http://www.lhpup.org/pet/4/opera-10.00.pet 15.2M
md5sum: 3e10e34dbce166c02532f2e87707a223

PETget will note a few missing deps, but it works anyway.

Been using the .sfs for a while now and so far everything seems to work fine. Found the exe file in /usr/lib/opera and a symlink icon in /usr/local/bin which I just dragged to the desktop in 4.1.1.

Dear tazoc,

Thanks for packaging Opera 10 as a pet. I installed it under 3.01 and it works fine. I had to do a little tidying up for my purposes, however, since I have my own QT4.4.2 installed and therefore deleted two QT libs you provided in the lib dir. I also simply symlinked the Opera binary into /usr/bin, so that Opera respects my QT style (GTK). Works like a charm, although it seems to me that 9.24, which was my last version, and running under QT3, was somewhat faster, which leads me to ponder the question whether newer is always better.

Many thanks again.

With kind regards,
vovchik

I don't know if it has anything to do with speed but in 4.1.1 I'm using the 9.62 .pet and the 10 .sfs file and 10 is way! faster than 9.62.

I installed Opera 10 in Puppy 4.1.2 last night, before I saw this forum thread. Installed as directed, works well.

Opera 10 is working well, but I have just noticed that it never manages to finish downloading the page in Gmail. Sometimes it says Document: 0B or sometimes for instance Document: 163/163 when opening a new email before it goes to 0B again. Anyone else notice this?

Dear Artie,

I seem to be getting the same with my gmail account. I have 100% loaded but the animated cursor keeps spinning. I can navigate, however, and I do not get the errors you mention. You are quite right in observing that something is not quite right. Firefox loads the mail page to the end and presents a normal cursor.

With kind regards and season's greetings,
vovchik

The latest build of Opera 10 (4116) has lots of fixes. Has anyone created a pet of this?

I have not, however the release notes discuss a new update feature:
Quote:
Changelog for Opera 10.0 Alpha 1 for UNIX
Information

* Download
* Build: 4102
* Released: December 4, 2008

Announcements

* Desktop Team blog
* Opera newsgroups (Google groups) or Opera newsgroups (news:// direct link)

Release Notes

* WARNING: This is an alpha version of Opera: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. Please use it only on properly backed up computers and do not install over previous Opera versions.
* This release uses a database format for Opera Mail (and feeds) incompatible with Kestrel. You will not be able to downgrade to a previous version of Opera and use Opera Mail after upgrading to Opera 10.0.
Quote:
Opera now includes the ability to automatically update itself when new releases become available. By default, Opera 10.0 Alpha 1 will simply notify the user about available updates. Users can specify that snapshots should be downloaded by enabling Download All Snapshots in opera:config. Users can also choose not to check for updates or to automatically install updates by going to Preferences > Advanced > Security and changing the "Opera update level" setting.
Also, from http://snapshot.opera.com:
Quote:
snap·shot/week·ly

* cutting edge; pre-alpha quality; often contains critical bugs
* distributed to a very limited audience via the Desktop Team blog
* typically available every Friday, though sometimes more or less often
* should never be installed over or substituted for a final release
* data backup is highly recommended before use
I also have the Gmail never quits loading bug, but I plan to wait for the next Alpha and hope that our Alpha 1 build 4102 will autoupdate itself to Alpha 2 at some point.
