Here's something I made in GIMP today... It goes well with the Numix JWM theme
I'm not sure how to display a preview |
With imgur, copy the Direct Link, rather than the Image Link. The [img] tag needs a filename, not an indirect link.
(link altered to add .png to the end)
Note that as-is, it's larger than the page normally is, so I also added an "l" to the end of the filename to force imgur to display the image at a smaller size. (There's a few characters you can add to the end of the filename to control the display size, but the most common are s, m and l. Example: https://imgur.com/dMwuh6el.png
Anyone saving the image should get the image at its original size, as far as I remember.)

I understood that posting a direct link image had a chance of no longer working.
The link could go bad, move, or no longer be good.
Posting as a attachment. It is actually in the forum database.

You tell me!
I have been scratching on my screen trying to remove the puke.
Well, the scratches are not too bad I think. In fact, it is almost esthetical. I may become an artist in time.

About as much as something could happen to the image in the forum database.
I've had an imgur account for roughly nine years, now. A number of my earliest images uploaded to the account were all for direct-linking into posts on this forum... and they're still there.
Honestly, I prefer displaying it directly as opposed to having the post-attachment 'frame' wrapped around it - and I can also quickly resize the image if necessary, especially if I'm an idiot and forget to check the width of the image beforehand - but to each their own.

I used to use Imgur all the time, but in recent months I've switched to PostImage.org. Imgur went through a spell of simply not displaying correctly in either Chrome/Chromium or Firefox. It would 'sign-in', but the page was unresponsive.....perhaps there was a problem with their servers for my area; maybe the problem was at my end, for all I know!
The sheer 'choice' of different types of link confused the hell out of me when I first started. PostImage also have a selection of 'links', but they are at least labelled a wee bit more clearly; it's more immediately obvious what each link is intended for.....
I, too, prefer displaying images directly within the post itself; that way, you get to choose exactly how and where you want it positioned. Helps a post to 'flow' better, IMO.
(Not complaining, per se, but I do love you guys with the big, wide, ultra-high resolution screens. I don't think you have the faintest comprehension of how it mucks up page dimensions for those of us with older, more 'modest' monitors.....)
Mike.

I've never heard of PostImage, but it sounds like it's worth taking a peek at.
I'm also making another wallpaper, and I promise this one won't be as gross
Maybe I can post it on there instead of imgur

Did it coincide with imgur's permanent change of their front page to what they have now? That page would always cause my Firefox setup to crash or become unresponsive.
I eventually just quit trying to load it in Firefox altogether, and used one of my other browsers.

That's why I always preview a post with images linked from imgur first... to make sure I keep the image sizes tolerable (width usually far less than 800, for example).

@ Makoto:-
Y'know, thinking back on it now, yes; it was around the time they were mucking about with the site code for the present 'front page'. I guess there were more than a few bugs in the code!
I do know quite a few posters on various other assorted forae I frequent also complained about the same thing. Okay, it's sorted itself out now, but it did me a favour, in a way, because I'm now with an image hoster who's a lot easier to work with..... I guess I shall eventually get around to migrating all my images to PostImage at some point in the not too distant future, but for now, most of those images are redundant.
We shall see.
Mike.
