3 Puppy versions booting from a DOS menu.

#1 Post by sunburnt »

I just got 3 different versions of Puppy on a Fat32 HD, to boot from a DOS menu.
This allows me to choose any one of them at boot, or in Win just exit to DOS.

Now I can try out new releases with out burning CDs!

Useing LinLd (not Grub) does not change the MBR (master boot record) on the HD, so my Win98 install IS NOT MESSED WITH.

Each Puppy version is in C:\Puppy in its own dir.
EXAMPLE: "C:\Puppy\Puppy105" & "C:\Puppy\Pizza105".

Win2000 & WinXP HDs default to NTFS, but they can make & use Fat32 HDs.
So add a small Fat32 partition, or add a small Fat32 HD, or a Fat32 USB drive.

If there's interest (if ya'll think it's a good idea) I'll make some sort of package to automate the whole setup.

This post was old & incorrect, so I removed it.

Post here if you want more info on how the new version of PupMenu works.

Zip it up. I'll put it on puptrix. Let others see it done, neat new trick.

Puppy Menu

#################
And another NEW version.
#################

It's cleaner & stabler, & it'll run Puppies scattered on different drives.

New ver.06 is same as ver.05, but with a NEW ISO mount & copy utility.
A batch file that will mount or unmount an ISO file as drive "P:".
It will also mount the ISO file, make a dir. with the ISO files name,
& then copy the files in the ISO file to the newly made dir.
Just type: "isomount h", & HELP will be displayed.
THE ISO FILE MUST be in the dir. WITH IsoMount.bat... need to add to docs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SORRY... IsoMount had troubles, rewrote it & it works good now.
DOS didn't want to make a dir. with a ".iso" extention on it, so I fixed it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone please try it with Puppy in a CD drive & TELL ME IF IT WORKS!
==============================================
I don't have any versions of Puppy burned to CD.

I want to get PupMenu to scan for Puppies & then set itself up.

LATEST version .06 has an ISO mount & copy utility, to put Puppy on HD, Flash, or USB.
NO Grub or CD burning needed!
