I was wondering what happened to Puppylinux.ca...
As for the torrenting idea, I would be for it except my ISP is Bell Canada.

It will better if we have a field on the package line that states which Puppy version this software works on / is tested on. This was something Barry had mentioned once earlier when we were making the Puppy repo on Puppylinux.org |
i figured i could add that as well
{abiword} {gnome office word processor} {office} {j-bob-server} {puplet:bobpup03} {puppy:411,410} {preferred:puplet} : [direct:http://jbob.surge8.com/packages/office/abiword.pet] [torrent:http://jbob.surge8.com/torrents/office/abiword.pet.torrent]
puplet means the name and version of the puplet. that would be held on a file i plan to make called /etc/puplet, which would work like puppyversion, but including name and version for a puplet. with if it's regular puppy the file would just say "purebred" as in a purebred dog.

(also, i might build a thread recommending this new format)

Now that we are improving the format. How and where would this format be stored? Would this be distributed and available on all the repository servers?

I could do separate web desktops for each series of Puppy (matching default backgrounds and all) and have the links for those pets in a dropdown install menu where the packages are categorized by their menu category (see my other project "The Pound" for an example). It won't be difficult for me to set up, but I may need some maintenance help later down the road from someone(s) who:
1. frequents the forum
2. has the ability to cut and paste
3. has the time to do it
4. (not necessary but bonus points for knowledge of html & css)
Versioning....we could make a dummy package called puppyXXX.pet that corresponds to each version and have it as a dependency if it only works on that version of puppy - it would only come up as a dependency warning so you could still use pets from other versions, but at least you'd be aware that it was made for another version

This is exactly what I love about Puppy. There is no 'can't'. Anything can be done.

Thanks Eric, love to reupload when I'm able. I'm also happy to host files on my server that aren't related to Ripple. The speeds not great, but it's another point of contact for people, and will make that backup job easier. Let me know what you want me to put on there, and I'm happy to download, then upload, via ftp. Cheers.

Okay. We are slowly getting there. Following links are starting to work.
http://puppylinux.ca/members/
http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/ (not complete yet)
Tpp is a huge directory, by next week, this should be completely populated.

puppyfiles.ca also makes good progress.
Most pets are available again already.
I think it should be restored completely tomorrow.
Many thanks to Eric for his great engagement
Mark

Hooray for Puppy!! and to some of the best people on any distro.
Hey Jay..I wanted to say how much your poem makes me laugh...good one
Cursed be those. who attacked our repository
I`d like to give them. a cactus suppository
We thank Eric so much, for no one could replace
And regret all the hardship, it has caused him to face
We hear your frustration, but don`t take it to heart
Remember each ending, contains a new start
Your service to Puppy, does not go unadmired
Just because your "account has expired"
Your efforts, truely, have helped Puppy grow
Without them, progress would have surely been slow
If you uncover the culprits, who`ve attacked us this way
I`ve got plenty of cactus, just name the day..........
Yes.. a new start..it's the Puppy way.
Eric

i agree with Caneri on this. I applaud John for his help to puppy.
And i hope .ca stays alive, and as it lives, the upcoming distributed repositories will live as well. And you will be able to rest easily with having less of a threat on your servers, if there are more people, helping to carry the puppy load .
Long live Puppy and puppylinux.ca!

Hi All,
Message to all developers that have files on puppylinux.ca
Prit is getting further along with the move to the new servers.
We need those with files hosted on .ca to check their stuff on the new server to be sure it's all there.
Please post to this thread to let us know what has been missed if anything.
Also new ftp accounts are ready on puppylinux.asia.
Let me know if you want to upload there so I can set you up for direct uploading.
@ttuuxxx
Your stuff is going up...it's just taking a long time as your directories are quite huge.
Thanks to Prit and thanks all for your patience,
Eric
EDIT: To add...you may notice when trying to download a file all you get is garbage on the screen.
Please use right click and save as for downloading if the file doesn't work...this is being fixed.

FYI,
I've got some space on my business domain and can host a few files if necessary. I only have 300GB of bandwidth, so will have to keep that in mind.

Tpp and Members directories must be mostly now available in the new .ca location. Please post here if any if your stuff is missing.
