editing Xorg.conf file RESOLVED

#1 Post by puponwiels »

Sony PCG-C1XD with NeoMagic NM2200 chipset. Screen 1024x480 (yep).

I have been able to get it to work with Debian with modeline adjustments etc. I want to the same in puppy but either:

- Puppy ignores my changes
- Erases my changes

I also discovered that there are multiple conf files including NM2200.conf

Is it the way xwin forces a reconfiguration....?

Anybody knows how to this correctly? C'mon, there must be brighter people than me!

Please help, don't mindubuntu but it is sooooo sloooow on above machine and Puppy flies but I want a bit more screen than 640x480 :-)

Interestingly he gets 1037x776 in xvesa, whereas my IBM 570 with the same chipset worked OK with xorg on v2.14 & 2.14R

Have you tried doing 'test' on choose video mode, then ctrl/alt/backspace for resetting it to a different resolution?

Or fine tune video from the menu wizard, once running x?

no reported problem here, using v2.13, though

Also found this debian tip, which has an xconf file listing for XF86Config-4 & 1024x480

good luck

I first selected 1024 x 600 in xorg.

These started x reliably and gave eccess to the Xorg editing capability, it also created a modeline entry.

Edited the Modeline and added the override parameter changed the monitor settings and bingo.

Happy as a puppy!!!!!

Anybody wants to have copy of my xorg file let me know VAIO PCG-C1XD and derrivatives...

Well done

If you would be so good as to edit your first post to include 'SOLVED' in the subject line, others will find it easier using searches

Thanks
