Info concerning Mupy 008.4 (Minisys-Linux)

#1 Post by MU »

Hello,

in the last days there was confusion about version 008.4 of Muppy/Minisys-Linux.

As some of you noted, I no longer work for BSB-Software; the contract officially ends in early december.
As I am currently on hollyday, we just had contact via Email/phone, what has lead to some misunderstandings and unresolved issues.

To clarify these, we had a meeting yesterday.
Here are the results:

- The FTP server from BSB- Software (ftp://ks301128.kimsufi.com) was replaced with new hardware.
The old system was backuped before, but the new server is not completely restored yet.

- I will upload next week a new version of Muppy, version 008.4.c4.
-- This version includes several updates.
-- It uses Kernel 2.6.27
-- it includes the new "177" Nvidia graficsdrivers, so you have accelleration on modern Nvidia boards.

Though I'll no longer work for BSB-Software, I will try to help you, if you have questions concerning that version or older ones.
What I cannot do though, is to invest a lot of time in writing additional extensions.
If I do not find a new job until january, I will go to a Java course sponsored by a state agency.
So I already have to invest a lot of time right now in learning Java, and in searching a new job as programmer.

I want to thank Stefan Otto from BSB-Software for the meeting.
We could discuss these issues in a friendly and solution orientated atmosphere.
As far as the time allows me, I will like to help out in future, if I can.

You can expect the new version somewhen next weekend, as I currently am in northern germany at home, where we do not have any internet.
I currently write this message from a local internet cafe.

See you again next week, Mark

Thanks Mark. Let's hope you find a great new job. Maybe even one that will allow you to work on your puppy/muppy releases.
I am really enjoying Muppy 8.4 and looking forward to your new version!!

Hope to hear from you (and a new Muppy) soon.

As I see - times are tough, yet B optimist (imagine being a BROKER these days instead of what you're doing ... so calm down a bit). Keep on & take care.

Looking forward to it MU!

Any chance you can beef it up and add the nvidia module?

Very nice workmanship.

Sorry for the late reply.
I had a small accident and now have a torn ligament on the foot (something like broken muscles).
For this reason I could not go home before yesterday.

I arrived at night, and this morning had to do some things in town.
I will upload Muppy later today in the evening.

OUCH!!! Been there, done that.

Just a note that I'm currently seeding two Muppy 008.4 torrents: So if anyone wants to get "on board" and begin torrenting... (maybe even seeding), then I can cut off the flow and test these nifty distros.

MU (Mark): I ... don't really know if the "basic" Puppy has torrent software in it or not. But these two links have a solid seeder (or more). So, if these torrents are good enough, no need to go uploading more files.

I was hoping to get the same files that are available for 008.3f (the 3 different sized ISOs, and all the extra SFS files) for version 008.4c. I imagine these are integrated into the larger CD ISO... and who knows what's in the Mega DVD (2 Gb? Whoa!). But I'm currently seeding these two torrents.

If you want a list of the files I'm thinking of, that can easily be supplied.

Edit:
MU wrote:... it includes the new "177" nVidia graphics drivers, so you have acceleration on modern Nvidia boards...
One question: what about acceleration for ATi video cards? Is it built-in? Or is it just not available. :(

:)

BobSongs,
many thanks.
Muppy can download torrents with Opera, and also has PupCtorrent and Transmission.
Transmission also is part of many other Puppy versions.

I currently upload the new 0084c4, but upload is slow.
Also we need to clarify some traffic issues first with our hoster.
So I cannot post download-links today, but hopefully tomorrow/ as soon as possible.

@ Mark: (in case this gets missed in my post above) - may I ask about ATi graphic cards adapter drivers for Muppy? Are they built in? Is there an .SFS file for 008.4c as there was for 008.3f? :D

@ Dingo: May I have a link for "Dokupuppy" screenshots? :D

lol. Oh, how silly of me.

I'm sorry. Let me try that again. May I have a screen shot of the Dokupuppy desktop with, perhaps, a few interesting applications running, similar to this:

Got me confused now (not difficult, though!).
Is this one:
http://dl2.ftpload.com/ozdppfriyscc/Mup ... .4c-EN.iso
Mark's new version 008.4.c4 ?
If not, has his upload been completed? Where?

Mark's new version 008.4.c4 ?

No.
008.4.c4 still uploads, and I need to wait for the "ok" concerning traffic from the hoster.
The upload itself should finish today, but then we need to wait for the "ok".
I will inform you, when 008.4.c4 is available.

Yes. Thank-you, Sage. You've found it spot on.

This is the ISO I've been searching for. It is much appreciated.

Thanks!

So, if I understand you correctly, 008.4 is not what we want, but 008.4.c4, then?
