Thanks DaveS. I try changing those and see what happens. I tired changing the /usr/local/bin/defaulttexteditor and it works well. I will modify my last post.

wosifat, I just installed the three (3) dot pets and python woks. One needs to install the two (2) libraries (libdb-4.4. pet and TclTk-patched4py-8.4.pet) first then the dot pet ( python-2.5.2.pet ). Otherwiise the installer complains about missing dependencies. One also has to reboot the system to ensure everything is loaded poperly and changes take place. I hope this helps. Otherwise you can try the tinypython that Barry talks about in his blog.

Still nothing.
Feel like I've kind of taken over this thread. I appreciate all the help though.

Soory, wosifat, I reach my limit on python. Hopefully, someone else may have an idea.

Here is how Box Pup looks on my monitor.

There is real merit in this derivative. Thanks to Openbox, I suspect, I can run it in 128Mb RAM - just - with a bundle of HW attached by starting up in pfix=nox, then running xorgwizard. So, gray, if you are able to trim just a little more fat from the running GUI it will open up a whole load more possibilities. Resist the siren voices about browsers; experience suggests that Opera is exactly right. Not sure where n4l has gone - did you contact him?

more and more Elegant!

Here is a transparent skin I use for the clock. I put it in /usr/share/xonclock/skins and change the path in /root/.xonclockrc to point to it instead of the default png. Changing the hand and bezel colors to black works for most of my usual backgrounds. I also disable the month and day in the clock and use tint to display it instead.

Happy simplicity

Here is the .xonclockrc file I use with the png above. It sets the hand number and bezel colors and thicknesses.

Very nice derivative to work with, even if the latest is so far unavailable to me (neither source on p.1, .ca is out for `til end of November it seems and the redirect goes nowhere href="") - simply a thanks to gray for making such a useful thing .. almost architectural in form and function as working art. Have been having fun with the 'old' P400 boxpup-r1 recently and funny that Marv did a redo of the analog clock since I wasted a bit of time trying to do a clockface from scratch and vastly disappointed at my poor efforts (it should be fair simple but the devil's in the details when I try). Good job and thanks to all for the tips & as always a work in progress is unfolding like a bloom.

opera crashes

#40 Post by virtualman »

I have found that opera crashes only in my hotmail account. when I login in hotmail, I can not see my INBOX, the screen just shows it for a part of a second and than it clears. can anybody help find out what is wrong. other accounts work well, just with hotmail something goes wrong. [/img]
PS: I can see normal hotmail window only after I click on button: fit to width and after that on button: reload

I've been using Boxpup for most of the week and i'm very impressed. Its very solid and really smartly presented.
But I have one small problem - I installed the dotpup handler but cannot install any pups! I tried to open the pup with all the petget scripts but no joy so I had to change the pup to zip and extract and install it.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

EDIT - Fixed, see DaveS's post below. Thanks.

virtualman - i had the same problem with opera, I think its the way it handles flash and .div html commands. There have been lots of problems with the new redesign.
I have installed seamonkey 1.1.8 which displays it ok. I changed the 'mail' button on wbar to open seamonkey so i have both browsers!

I still haven't gotten the dotpups for python to work, headfound. How does that change to zip and extract and install thing work? May be worth a shot for me.

Wireless broken?

#48 Post by jeepinpete »

I managed to download Boxpup. Very nice to look at, and it looks promising to use. But wireless is not working in any shape or form. I've tried Puppy 4.0 & 4.1, both work out of the box. Boxpup is not showing a wlan0 or eth0, and when I try to load the drivers manually, it fails (bcm43xx). I was going to try to download it again, but run into the same issues mentioned above. Any ideas?

BCM43xx wireless

#50 Post by Marv »

jeepinpete,

I'm running Boxpup 4.1.? on a Dell inspiron 4000 with a Buffalo PCMCIA wireless card with a Broadcom 43xx chip. After using ndiswrapper with this kit through maaaany pups, native support for the BCM43xx finally works reliably for me!

Booting either Boxpup 4.1.? or NOP 4.10/4.1.1 from original CD or ataflash installation, running the network wizard and scanning detects my WEP net connection correctly. Entering my WEP key (I prefix it with s: as I use an alphanumeric key), saving the profile, then choosing to use that profile brings up my wireless connection reliably, and it is done correctly on reboot.

If you scan from within the network wiz what do you see?
Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.
