changes not saved

#1 Post by dolladolla »

hey everybody

this is my first time with linux so i know almost nothing. i searched in the forum but didn't find the answer i was looking for.

i made a 2 gig partition on my harddrive and did a frugal install of macpup foxy 1.4 which i believe is based on dingo. it works well but none of my changes are ever saved. the setup for the internet, theme changes, backgrounds, firefox bookmarks, or anything that i save in the my documents folder in the root directory.

now when i shut down it asks to save every time and i say yes and create the sfs(?) file on the partition where i installed.

what am i missing?

HI,

I'm not an expert, but the first thing to do could be NOT INSTALL puppy, just boot from CD, format the partition, and reboot (and save settings).

Once that puppy reboots and recognize your .sfs file, you could try to install...

I'm just guessing, but this is what I would try...

good luck

not sfs this the read-only base
the process of saving settings on shutdown should create a .2fs file the default name is pup_save.2fs

Is it actually creating your .2fs file? - can you see it there on the hard drive?
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

Hello, you said ,"a frugal install of macpup foxy 1.4 " do you mean 1.5 ? There isn't a 1.4.

Are you using the live cd to boot with? Cause it sounds like you're running it in ram, that's why it keeps asking to save at the end but the changes dont load at start up.
