Hi Nicole,

here is an instruction:
http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?t=3430

I also made a Dotpup of gnumeric 1.5.2.

It can save .xls if you create them from new.
It can not save imported .xls.

We will have to wait approx. 2 Month until Puppy 1.0.7 will be released with gnumeric 1.6.0.

Cheers, Mark

Thanks MU

No, openoffice is a big application.
Also if you just start calc, in background all applications will be loaded.

It is not possible to delete writer or others.

My gnumeric 1.5.2 can open xls, it just can't save it again:
http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?t=3522
I tried it with this file:
http://htb1865.de/dokumente/downloads/beitrag.xls

It also can save a complete new xls.

Mark

Thanks Again!!!

I think the Planmaker you guys are talking about is the Free Edtion. Well guys, I think you need to register first. It is compared to a demo. So it has limited features. Got it? :)

I tried ABS, no support for excel.
I tried KSpread, to slow & no support for excel too.

Next time I will try Siag. Can some convert that *.dsl to *.pup? I see that Damn small has it. Wil this one support excel? :D

These spreadsheet limits are serious business for many people.

I use Gnumeric, but only for small projects.

I wonder, what is the best (most robust) spreadsheet for Linux, even if you have to buy it?

Planmaker has a very good reputation in germany, especially because of the Excel-Support (though it is not perfect).

To use it reasonible with Microsoft-documents, you will need to purchase it, but it has a fair price. http://www.softmaker.com/english/index_en.php
It is available for 22.22 US$ ONLY today.

OpenOffice 1 had a limitation to 32000 lines when importing tables.
I think this was fixed in later versions, at least OO2 should support more.

Both products will have problems importing VB-script.
I think OO2 has some tools based on Java, to import some macros to Starbasic.
But all this activeX-stuff certainly won't work.

This is just what i read, so don't blame me, if this is not correct ;)

There is a video now showing how to install open-office.

If /mnt/home does not work for you, use "/" instead.
You might have to resize pup001 for that.
