PlayMusic as desktop widget

#1 Post by torm »

It uses Gtk2desklet (included) for transparency, so no extra compositing manager needed
funcgtkrcCreate script manages font, fg-color, icon theme and pixmaps.
To set some other location of the widget on the desktop, edit the main script.
Suggestions are welcome, then, I know nothing about the code.

Have fun!

There is a mess of confusing stuff on a search for "electrolize"

Is this for 32 bit or 64?
Will it run on Precise 5.7.1?
I could try it but I'm getting wary of downloading now and messing my stable system up.

Edit took a chance and it runs on 32 bit comes up as Mulimedia->PlayMusic_dt

Just plays whatever music files you choose

So Torm do you know where the code is stored at least . Is this a script or what?

It appears to be 32bit only. Is there a 64bit lib file or is the source available so I can compile it?

Oomph...
I don't think there was a 64bit version of the gtk2desklet..
then there may be ( don't really remember, "roaming" at the moment)
source included with the initial package of library here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74204

please edit "funcgtkrcCreate" script with Geany ( or any text editor ) in the
home folder under my-applications/bin/playmusic_dt/.. , to use any font you like (or have) ...
Or just comment out the line that manages the font, so it will use the system default
PlayMusic is a gtkdialog script, that is included with the gtkdialog doc/examples in devx.sfs usually, playmusic_dt is more or less the same thing -with less (minimal) features and a little different look..

I had read somewhere that gtk2desklet is NOT going to be supported anymore in future releases of gtk/gtkdialog. The one who has had posted this information had shown a example of how to do it instead of using gtk2desklet.

Though I can't remember if I had read this on this here forum (probably in the gtk2desklet topic) or at a different place on the web, sorry.

It has worked for me until precise. In Puppies beyond precise, it won't be on top of all windows etc.pp.

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees!

Hello.
Looks like it works just fine with latest tahr (at least 32bit, no hardware to test 64..)
What good is "on top"... ?

One can pick a version of gtkdialog, or let the app figure it out
if the preferred version is present on the system or not.
Different versions can co-exist, as far I understand, or will the new version be
conflicting any prior installed? Can't tell if I'd care for Gtk3.0, at this point...

for example:PlayMusic_dt should ask directly for "gtkdialog" , not anything else,
I did not change that piece of the script.

Must have been the "web".. :?
And it sounds interesting, so please share some more info..?
