Also, i'm going to compile a gnome sfs. All this will be tested and out before new-years. Versions will be KDE 4.3 and GNome 2.24.2. KDE will include Kdevelop pet as well. Alright, now i need to make yet another dep!
Quite an undertaking, I'm looking forward to seeing those since I'm a fan of both. Sorry that I don't have the knowledge to help in the compliation.

Wow, I feel really stupid.

I was tired and just copying and pasting commands from kde's tech base into the terminal, and forgot that i needed to initialize DBUSDIR before i used it as the installation prefix... so i need to do a complete reconfigure so that it'll install into /usr. Next time i'll be more careful :)

There are no guides for installing gnome from source! all they say is use this autobuilder, which doesn't install :( Besides, i need to manually do new2dir. Oh well, i just have to download a billion tarballs and just for the tar command to extract them all, then do a cd dir, make, new2dir make install, cd .., repeat. It'll take a while.

......which will end up being an addon package (or SFS). Also, i'm going to compile a gnome sfs......
friendly advice

be consistent - SFS is the preferred option others seem to be favouring

so a .PET for the small stuff, and SFS for everything else? I probably wouldn't bother with an sfs for stuff under 5-10MB.

Anyway, things are going good, though QT is taking FOREVER to compile. Yes, i know there is a repo version of QT, but i'm making sure that it is configured correctly with KDE. I am betting that a few hours of compiling now will save me days worth of stuggling with reconfig later.

Hi!

I am having troubles with my pc... 4.0 is crashing repeatedly when using gimp, and I can't install it in 2.17...

I'm a design noob, but i've got some serious ideas for the website, you'll have to wait and see :)

Cheers!

Hi.

Check what i've done:

http://develpup.110mb.com/

I'm (and it's) a work in progress, but i did put a lot of love ( ) on that template, since it is the 4th template i've done from scratch.

I hope you like it, i'm struggling with the copyright thingie... I need to put it because if I dont the maincontents table touches the bottom of the screen.

A question, do u see the copyright right in the middle of the screen or in the bottom? I am thinking that perhaps my outdated seamonkey doesn't support the css i am using ...

No, droope

nothing at all on mine, last line is
Any of these can be used with traditional she-bang syntax #![shell]
however there is a very small [6pt?] line at the top, overlaying the dark blue bars on dark background(logo?)
Develpup is licenced under the GPL and is under development by polymath.
Design by droopdesign.
This dark backgrounded square also overlays the first 4 lines of bugfixes as well as some of the previous body text, if that helps

I'm not a web page designer, but it looks as though the page is made up of layers, & maybe needs the main text to be the top layer instead of mid layer, you understand, yes?

Hopefully you will see this as constructive criticism & not be deterred

Nice site. Now i need to make my puplet look that good :)

Dependency hell right now. Post later.

EDIT: It seems like the bar below the logo you made does not have consist of links even though this appears to be what they are there for. Is this on purpose? You've done a great job with the site. Looks great.

OK.

I have been busy, but i haven't been very successful with KDE. My main problem is with compiling kdesupport, where i have several errors. This is copied'n'pasted from my help thread on KDE forums:
Hey,

I'm running puppy linux and was compiling KDE 4 from the trunk branch on SVN. When i go to compile kdesupport, i get:

----------------------------------------------

[ 0%] Built target automoc4
[ 0%] Building CXX object akonadi/libs/CMakeFiles/akonadiprotocolinternals.dir/notificationmessage.cpp.o

make[1]: *** [akonadi/libs/CmakeFiles/akonadiprotocolinternals.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

---------------------------------

I'm pretty sure this is a problem with preprocessor macros in one of the header files, but i'm not sure. Can someone shed more light on this? Thanks!
So, since i last posted, to make up for KDE's failure to compile, i have compiled GNUcoreutils and am currently 'making' mono+bless, along with making several other changes to add several development packages and such (which you probably won't notice unless you do a LOT of compiling and stumble into them :) ).

If anyone could help with my KDE problem, it would be much appretiated. Any suggestions on how to make the puplet greater would be greatly thanked too.

Oh, almost forgot: Have updated netbeans and java. The next release will have both netbeans AND codeblocks, and all the "major" language plugins for the former (ie ruby, cpp, etc.).

I know you are probably going "Oh, this is getting boring. Just sitting here waiting for him to publish the ISO, which hasn't had a new release for a LONG time", but please, be patient, i'm going as fast as i can.

DOOD! That's the same hosting I use. :D PM me and I can totally lend a hand with site upkeep and coding and such. If you've been on their support forums, you'll find me as RBCFAQS. ;) I might be able to talk Andre and the admins into donating to our cause if I'm lucky. They kinda love me and all. :D

Now that I'm done with that rant...

Do you have the GCC or CC or CL or any of those compilers laying around? They would nearly have to be there, and I'd kinda like a copy for myself, if you don't mind sharing. ;)

That'd be great. Anything about the website you'd have to talk to droope, the last thing i did about the site was create the account and change index.html so that i didn't get my account closed. The only thing that i don't really like about it is that it gives me so much space and bandwidth but doesn't let me host anything over 8MB... All i really need is to host the absolute latest and greatest ISO and maybe a sfs or two...

Even upgrading to paid (bleh) hosting wouldn't give me anywhere near the file upload limit. Most free servers are really slow. I'm extremely happy with puppyisos.org right now but i feel bad leeching off of MU's bandwidth.

Hey, what do you mean by "lying around?" Yes, they are included in the puplet for obvious reasons. Yes, i have a copy of devx for 4.00 on me. What are you asking, exactly?

Anyway, i've gone off on a tangent. JDK has been updated, netbeans is taking it's time downloading plugins, and mono has finished making.

Few remarks:

I have Netbeans working (default config of netbeans finally works, no need to hack startup scripts!) with Java, Ruby, C, C++, Python, and PHP. Now, the only choice left is whether to remove C/C++ plugin and stick with Code::Blocks for C-type work (I love Code::Blocks, but i'm concerned about ISO size- When a puppy distro requires a DVD burner, the end of days has come). I hope to get a few responses. I don't want to fall into mandriva's pattern- do what you want, and to hell with the commutity. I much prefer the "You tell me what you want and i'll give it to you" model :)

Please comment, I have no idea which option to choose.

What's the current ISO size? I can probably talk Andre into allowing you to upload the ISO and the SFS files fairly easily. I talked him into giving me MySQL and fsockopen() and the 1-click backup for free.

And I found the Devx I needed for 4.1.2, so nvm on that one. ;) I'll deff need the size of the .iso to talk to Andre about though.

The mouse freezes when I use Develpup - this can sometimes be fixed (USB mouse) by removing the mouse and then adding again.

I vaguely remember there was a USB issue that was fixed with 4.12
A friend who wants to develop for Puppy (has for years now) finds that develpup hangs after some usage.

His other issue is not being able to connect with wifi but that is not your specific issue.
Sorry I am unable to provide more positive feedback. How are others getting on?

Mouse freezes? I have a USB mouse and it seems to work fine for me... may be an issue with hardware support. IDK, i haven't messed with any of that from base dingo AFAIK. I'll look in to upgrading the base... not sure when i'll have time, though. Also, not sure what kinks might arise.

Also, after use it freezes? I don't know anything about that either. The worst issue i'm getting right now is monitor flicker after standby, but that's the same in ubuntu, so it's probably a hardware problem. Not sure why it would freeze? How old is the computer, and did he start any applications right before it froze? Maybe conky updated itself too fast? Not sure, again. Some of the applications can be kinda resource hungry.

I've compiled Mono+GTK# addons plus a hex editor; thread is here

It's probably too big to include in the final ISO. I'm thinking about making a version with codeblocks and only minimal netbeans, and a version with full netbeans but no wxGTK or codeblocks. Full-on both would be way too big (not to mention overkill).

Updates to come. I'll tell you about the ISO size once it finishes building and i can get back on the computer.

No, but it is easy to make links to it, since it's divided in pieces (Home, Downloads, etc).

Simply add <a href="home.html"> <IMG TAG> </a> before and after the image tag. (If you don't know how to do it, i'll do it for you, ;)

Cheers!
Droope

Edit: I'll do that for you, and plus I will make the copyright thingie work, even if I have to bruteforce it. I will also make tags that explain the source code for you.
