MtPaint Pre-release - stable version expected for Puppy107
Please test for Mark and feedback . . .
in particular those with a wacom tablet - I have one
will it work with Puppy?

You can download for testing, seems as stable as always already . . .
http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.php?cat=other&file=mtpaint-2.09.24

This is Marks email - you need to use Start / Utilities / Mtools to gunzip2 (decompress) the above file - once downloaded

Quote:
I compiled the latest binary just now which I have attached. You should be
able to run it with:

bunzip2 mtpaint-2.09.24.bz2
./mtpaint-2.09.24

Its just a basic compilation so theres no language translation stuff, but
thanks to the programs simplicity it can just run from a single binary file
(still under 350K!) Although it seems to work fine for me, I still think it
needs more testing before a final release so if you give it to your friends
remind them of its beta status.

Here is the fragment from the NEWS file:

* Support for pressure sensitive tablets via Preferences window, see 'Tools'
in docs
* Colour histogram added to Information window (Ctrl-I)
* Palette->Create Quantized (Wu) method added - Good for small palettes e.g.
32
* Convert to Indexed window improved
* View window now has focus toggle to keep locked on the main window centre
position
* Info window now counts all colours in RGB images - if 16MB memory is
available
* Preferences window is now non-modal and has an apply button
* ./src/Makefile simplified
* Brazilian Portuguese translation contributed by Paulo Trevizan
* BUGFIX - memory leak with DL1 Quantize & Floyd-Steinberg fixed
* BUGFIX - stopped segfault when pressing * and - keys simultaneously in pan
window
* BUGFIX - segfault fixed when using read only filesystems with no
~/.mtpaint write access

If you have got your tablet working in the Gimp then mtPaint should work
with it too as they both use the same GTK+ methods. It took me a little
practice to get used to the pressure sensitivy, but once mastered its a lot
of fun. Let me know if there are any problems.

Regards,
Mark.

mtPaint 2.03, in Puppy 1.0.6, does have one annoying thing:

Images are saved with read-write permission for owner only, no read
permission for group and world. So, if you create an image, then upload it
to the Internet, and forget to "chmod" it, noone can read it.

Barry,

That sounds unusual. When I save files in Puppy 1.0.5 or other distros I always get read access for everyone, with writing for the user only, i.e.

-rw-r--r--

when using ls -l.
