Can't mount audio cd's in puppy 4.1

Hi

I'm having a problem mounting/running audio cds. The cd is detected (sr0 appears on desktop) but does not automatically mount (which it does for other data cds). So I can't play any music!

Any ideas?

Audio CDs can be mounted, as they don't contain a normal filesystem.

Gxine plays these unmounted from menu 'file' --> 'CD'.

Thanks Sigmund, showing my ignorance.

When I tried gxine file--> CD it gave me the error -

'Autoplay input play CD failed check engine output for details'

Any idea how I do this?

I just checked that it still works. Pop in a audio CD, then click on the desktop CD icon, then Gxine starts automatically. Works fine.

Perhaps you should test with a different audio CD.

Hi Barry

Tried other audio CDs but get same result. How do I check xine engine output for more detail?

You could start gxine from the console (rxvt)
Maybe messages are shown, so you can post them here.

Ok message on console reads -

xine-lib: error: Autoplay input plugin 'CD' failed: Check engine output for further details.
AFD changed from -2 to -1

Don't think this is going to be much help.

Go into Gxine Preferences/Configure.

Set the level of of menu detail from beginner to master of the known universe.

You will see a media tab, click on it.

Now in the path for the cd drive enter /dev/sr0 instead of /dev/cdrom.

Then play the CD.

I don't have an optical drive on this machine.
Does the drive wizard on the setup menu manage to link /dev/cdrom to /dev/sr? ?

Thanks Alcy that did the trick.
