Speak-Pup RC2

#1 Post by Trobin »

Once more into the breach I go, but this time ready to duck.

I don't know if the OS Gods have decreed that Speak-Pup be based on Puppy 2.17. I have certainly been challenged in my efforts to use 3.00 or 4.xx series. I may, one day, tempt the fates again, but for now I have bowed to their wishes.

Speak-Pup RC2 is based on Puppy 2.17

http://puppylinux.igsobe.com/puppylinux ... so.md5.txt

INTERNET
--Alpine 2.00 for email. This version can be configured to use Gmail. I
will upload instructions later.
--Links-2 for web browsing.
--Irssi for IRC chat.
--Psjua for sip to sip voip calls.
--Firelog for internet connection and utlities

DOCUMENT
--E3 for text processing
--Aspell for spell checking
--Index for a flat filer
--GOCR for Optical Character Recognition
--scanimage for scanning

MEDIA
--CDP CD player
--MOCP MP3 player

OTHER
--YTREE - for managing files
--SimpleBashBu for making back ups
--Bashburn for burning files to a CD.

I am not happy with either CDP or MOCP. It seems that the more fancy the program, how colourful it is the harder it is to listen to. I want to look for bash scripts to handle that.

The following programs have been installed but will have to be run in a bash shell.

As bash shells may be often needed, each menu has an option to open one.

BRLTTY-3.10 - the soft brailer
CLACCT - Command Line Accountant - finances.
YAFC - Yet Another Ftp Client.

Speak-Pup also has Ncurses and Java 1506 installed.

Plus whatever else Barry put in Puppy 2

I just wanted to stress that if you start up the X-Windows system and return to the menuing (command line) version, you must remove the ~/usr/X11R7/X symlink. Nothing else.

I haven't been paying all that much attention to what's been happening here, and it seems that something has happenewd with Puppylinux.ca. Which means that the links I have to the speakpuprc2.iso file does not work. I received an email indicating that a person at blindtechsnetwork were interested and looking for the link.

I've uploaded it to :
