I couldn't wait 8 hours.
On my notebook (see specs below) 4.1Retro boots OK, but 4.1 hangs as soon as it begins to load the kernel.

My frugal install uses these grub parameters:
pmedia=satahd psubdir=Dingo41

I gave it about 3 minutes then I did a hard poweroff as I was unable to do anything from the keyboard.

I would have thought that recent hardware would run the later kernel OK.
All previous versions of Puppy 3.xx run OK on the HP Pavillion tx1000 although I could never get wireless operational with the 2.xx series (it uses the bcm34xx wireless card).

Anyone else have strange happenings with the new kernel?

B.

I see on another 4.1 boot problem he had a USB keyboard, on my WYSE S90 both keyboard and mouse are USB and 4.1 hangs on boot??? On my wyse 3150SE, (only change from S90 is keyboard, mouse, printer port), 4.1 works fine with normal keyboard and mouse???
Anyone working on problem with USB???????
Below from other post.

I an not sure if related but there is a problem with USB tarball - check Barrys blog for 9th October 2008 - part of which is below

Firmware installation problem
There is a problem with how 4.1 installs a firmware tarball. It only affects the 'dvb-usb.ko' module. At the 12th hour, just before releasing 4.1, I threw in some firmware for this module, but we have now found that the firmware tarball does not install when the dvb-usb.ko module loads for the first time

Lobster also quoted this from my blog. Please disregard, it has nothing to do with USB or booting. It was simply a firmware install issue, that I fixed as explained in a later blog post.

I tried the same with 4.1 on a recent laptop from my friend and it got stuck after "booting kernel" message. I did verify the md5sum and it was correct.

But 4.1 Retro booted fine in this machine.

When 4.1 (new kernel) hung I had been trying to boot it with a USB keyboard and USB mouse attached to my notebook, so I unplugged both and tried booting 4.1 on the notebook again. Result: -still the same - a single message about unzlamaing something ... then "Booting the Kernel" ... and it still hangs.

My notebook has twin processors which the new kernel is supposed to make better use of, but I guess I'll just have to continue testing 4.1retro unless there's a fix.

The first puppy, 4.1, to play great music on the WYSE products I have only to hang up on 1/2 of them. Will try 4.1 retro to see if it hangs?
Does anyone know if 4.1 retro has exact same sound, alsa, as 4.1?
Would be real bummer if no hang but no sound on retro?

4.1 also has some type of new file system??????
At first boot it showed 54meg free ram in box lower right on a 128meg ram system but after 1st save and reboot a layered file system made box show 118meg in free ram box?????????????
Does 4.1 retro have this?????????????

ACPI: EC: Non Query Interupt Received Swithcing to Interupt Mode

ACPI: Bus Type PNP Registered

if I tap the power key - it keeps going & boots ok
