Gimp 2.6 (updated to 2.6.3)

Posted: Sat 18 Oct 2008, 20:42
by jcoder24
This was compiled in Puppy 4.1 and may not work in other puppies. Downloads available from ftp://puppy:puppylinux@ftp.servage.net/jcoder24/. This link will be updated when the files are mirrored (or moved to the correct location).

Requires gegl, babl, glib, libopenraw, libwmf (all available from the above link) and sdl-1.2.9.pet

~~~~~~
gimp was configured with --without-dbus --disable-python --enable-gimp-remote and installs to /usr/local/
All other packages were compiled with --prefix=/usr.
gegl was configured with libopenraw and sdl support.
When downloading only download the:
* _DEV packages if you want to recompile gimp or need them to compile another program.
* _DOC packages if you want the documentation
* _NLS packages for international language support
NB Gimp 2.6.1 regures gtk-2.12.5, however, puppy4 has 2.12.1. To get around this I modified the configure script to accept 2.12.1 as the minimum gtk version. Hopefully this wouldn't make much difference. If it does then gtk will have to be upgraded. Tests so far hasn't generated any errors.
Please test and report successes/failures
Was trying to compile this a few days ago. I'll finish uploading some stuff to my ftp and then will test it (just in case something goes wrong)
Bubs solved (comparing with 2.4.0-rc3)?
Dear Jcode24:
This new version has the same bugs that I found in the vers. mentionet?
1.- When I try to print a file into a shared windows net, the only way to do this is going to File>Print>PrintPreview>Print? The obvious method (File>print>print) don't work.
2.- It's solved the problem to try to paste a image into gimp? When I try to 'cut and paste' an image from a web with the commands File>Adquire->Paste as new this don't work (It works in Kubuntu, but in Puppy 4.1 not).
Thanks for your work!
Updated to 2.6.2.
Included gimp-remote and added links pointing /usr/local/lib/libgimp* to /usr/lib/libgimp*. Some of these links were needed for the ufraw-gimp plugin, which is part of the ufraw package.
I added the dependencies in one package (+ufraw & lcms):
http://www.openplatformeducation.org/gi ... 3-i486.pet
Still get minor Gimp error message:
Opening '/root/%U' failed: No such file or directory
other than that no problems
p.s thanks for choosing option 3 when you did new2dir make install - it helps make the packages so much smaller (it didn't look like the sdl package was done this way but I didn't have time to fix it)
you might edit the gimp.desktop file in /usr/share/applications.
Look for a line like "Exec=gimp %F"
or similar.
Remove the parameter (like "%F").
I think JWM can't handle such parameters, and so you get the error message.
@MU
That worked - I guess I will leave it there since it doesn't cause any problems & many puplets don't use jwm
p.s. the .desktop file was in /usr/local/share/applications vs. /usr/share/applications
(I am guessing this means that Gimp was not compiled with --prefix=/usr and defaulted to /usr/local ??)
Cannot find desktop file in /usr/share/applications using puppy 4.1.1 any idea on its location?
See my previous post for the .desktop file location - Also I will be tracking GIMP for the install menu of the Puppy Web Desktop (my "out of the box" distributed repository that I have code named "The Pound")
python fu's and script fu's?
Is there a Gimp 2.6 with the python fu's and script fu's?
by MU
gymnart,
Gimp 2.6.4, but I compiled it in Ultrapup, it will not work in Puppy 4.12 I fear, because we use a newer glib there.
I made an Iso "newyearspupMU.iso" that contains it.
In addition you will need python+gdesklets_411.sfs.
Get all from here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 003#263003
It compiled the python plugins, but I did not check them yet, if they really work.
What I can see quickly is, that there is a menu-entry:
Filters - Python-FU - Console
Can you tell me, what other filter should be available?
Script-Fu also is included.
Is the Animation filter there? How about UFraw?
For the python+gdesklets_411.sfs, would it need to be loaded at startup each time like the OpenOffice .sfs? For some reason, the version of Puppy that I run was having some trouble with that (I boot Puppy from the CD and save all my settings, etc to my usb stick.)
As for new libraries, I thought Puppy 4.1.2 had the newest.
animation filters are included.
ufRaw: I created a PET, that can be downloaded there, too.
Made from a slackware package.
Works standalone, or as Gimp-filter.
It is engaged, when you open a file like:
http://www.rawsamples.ch/raws/canon/1dm ... N_1DM2.CR2
Ultrapup has recompiled libraries, they are not identical with the one from Puppy.
For me here, it works :)
XSane plugin?
Posted: Wed 14 Jan 2009, 23:55
by gymnart
I tried out the Gimp from jcoder24 and it seems to work.
I have a question though: Where do you find this new Gimp's scanner plugin? Was that included? The menus are a bit changed around from the 2.2 series that I am used to. I'm accustomed to going to File > Acquire > XSane Device Dialog and then it opens the necessary windows to use my scanner.
Posted: Thu 15 Jan 2009, 00:04
if I remember well, my version 2.6.4 did not compile it, as I had no xsane source installed. So it might be required to compile it on your own, if you need that. Or post a request in the additional software forum.
**edit: xsane plugin is here:
