The LDS Operating System

#1 Post by Todd »

I am beginning work on The LDS Operating System. My goal is to have a system that can be installed on computers being donated by the Church. I have never been much of a blogger, but my work area for this project is http://www.tbrichardson.info/. Any suggestions?

Sincerely,

Todd Richardson

I have never been much of a blogger, but my work area for this project is http://tbrichardson.info/. Right now I have Fat Free which I have customized and added Firefox to. Ttuuxxx found a wonderful geneology program (Ftree) that I will be installing next. I am going to re-install the CUPS printing system as well. Any suggestions of other programs for inclusion?

Sincerely,

Todd Richardson

G'day Todd,

PAF5 - works with wine but the fonts go crazy. Any chance of a pure Linux version? Or a wine fix?

Thanks TTuuxxx and Todd for your work for all the genealogy nuts out there (me).

I will be giving the Ftree a try to see how easy it is for very inexperienced computer users.

Could be an answer to our very old computers at the Research Society Centre (Center for the American viewers)

I installed this, but it didn't show up when I clicked on the wizard. Am I doing something wrong?

I figured out why CUPS wouldn't work; I had forgotten to put a symlink to firefox in /usr/local/bin/.

I have been having trouble with my web forwarding, so here is the real address of my website:

http://www.geocities.com/richardsontb/

I am up to version 0.3. This version is the same as 0.2r1, but I fixed the symlink problem that was keeping Ttuuxxx's print module from working. I also removed tkmines; I am going to find a cleaner copy.

Sincerely,

Todd Richardson

P.S.: I have applied for web space at tuxfamily.org.

P.S.S.: I tried installing the XFCE windows manager. It was beautiful. The version I installed came from dopups.de and was made for an earlier version of Puppy. It's menus didn't match up with those in 3.0.1. Anyone know of a clean version where I can manually install the menu entries?
